Reports: Israeli intelligence warns the United States of an Iranian plot to assassinate Trump

The information was passed to US officials this week, but details were not provided

Israel has shared new intelligence with the United States alleging that Iran recently developed a new plan to assassinate US President Donald Trump, according to multiple media reports. The Wall Street Journal reported that Israel passed the intelligence to US officials this week. Meanwhile, CNN, citing two sources familiar with the matter, reported that the warning was delivered this week and referred to a specific alleged plot. While the exact details of the alleged plan remain unclear, CNN reported that US agencies had not independently verified intelligence or tracked the alleged plot before the Israeli warning.According to CNN, some US officials believe that Israeli intelligence may also be part of a broader effort by Israel to influence Trump’s decision to intensify US military action against Iran. One source told the channel that US intelligence had been monitoring a steady stream of threats against Trump in recent weeks, but described the Israeli warning as new because it referred to a specific alleged plan.

The White House refused to comment directly on the aforementioned intelligence, and referred the Wall Street Journal and CNN to the statements Trump made on Wednesday while speaking to reporters in Ankara. “They want to eliminate the American leader, me,” Trump said during the press conference. “I’m on every list. I saw this morning, I’m on every one of their lists. So far, I think I’ve been a little lucky, but that might not last long.”

Later, Trump also said that he recently learned of a new list that ranks him as the top assassination target in Iran. However, it remains unclear whether he is referring to the specific Israeli intelligence mentioned in the reports. These reports also come against the backdrop of growing disagreements between Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu over the direction of the conflict with Iran. According to the Wall Street Journal, Netanyahu called for continued military operations against Iran to achieve additional war goals, while Trump sought to exit the conflict due to concerns about its broader economic consequences.
