New Delhi, India, home to one of the world’s largest homeopathic ecosystems, is expected to emerge as a global leader in the sector, driven by strong clinical expertise, extensive practitioner networks, and internationally recognized quality certifications and standards.

For decades, German homeopathic brands have enjoyed an outstanding global reputation, often viewed as the gold standard in quality, consistency and research-backed manufacturing, AYUSH experts said.

However, they said India is on track to not only match these companies, but also surpass them, driven by two strong quality frameworks – AYUSH Premium Mark and NABL accreditation.

According to industry reports, the country has over 2.5 lakh registered homeopathic practitioners, nearly 300 educational institutions, and millions of patients who rely on homeopathy as a primary or complementary system of medicine.

The global homeopathic market is estimated to be worth over US$8-10 billion, with Europe accounting for a large share, historically dominated by Germany. Experts believe that quality-backed Indian brands are now well placed to challenge this dominance.

“The main difference is the certified quality and scientific verification,” said Dr Pradeep Prajapati, Director, All India Institute of Ayurveda.

The AYUSH Premium Mark, launched by the Ministry of AYUSH, represents world-class compliance in manufacturing, safety and quality management of AYUSH products, he added.

Dr. Prajapati explained that NABL certification ensures accuracy, reliability and repeatability in accordance with international standards in testing and quality control – in line with ISO standards recognized throughout Europe and beyond.

India has unparalleled clinical data, strength of practitioners, and patient diversity in homeopathy,” said Rajeshwar Tiwari, senior representative from Ministry of AYUSH.

“When this experimental advantage is supported by approved quality frameworks like AYUSH Premium and NABL, Indian homeopathy gains scientific credibility that is globally comparable. This integration of research, regulation and manufacturing excellence is essential to compete with established European brands,” Tiwari said.

A notable example of this transformation is Adven Biotech, which became the first homeopathic company in India to obtain both AYUSH Premium Mark and NABL certifications.

Adesh Sharma, CEO, Adven Biotech, said, “AYUSH Premium and NABL are not just certifications; They are global passports of Indian homeopathy.

“For years, Indian brands have been clinically strong but undervalued internationally due to lack of globally recognized quality standards. These certifications completely change that perception and put Indian companies on the same platform as leading German companies,” Sharma said.

He added that India will achieve strategic gains. “Germany may have the legacy, but India has the scale, talent, raw material strength, and now certified quality. When Indian brands combine NABL-backed testing rigor with AYUSH Premium manufacturing standards, we can offer products that are globally trusted but highly accessible. This is how India not only competes with German homeopathy, but outperforms it.”

Sharma further said, “We have aligned our internal systems with international standards – from authentication of raw materials and in-process checks to validation of the final product. NABL has encouraged us to measure everything scientifically, while AYUSH Premium has ensured end-to-end compliance across manufacturing and governance. It has been challenging, but transformative in our organization.”

Experts point out that this shift is crucial at a time when global consumers are becoming more discerning. Markets in Europe, the Middle East, Latin America and Africa demand evidence of quality, safety and consistency, not just tradition.

“German brands have historically benefited from strong regulatory support and a uniform pharmacopoeia. India is now working to quickly close this gap,” Dr. Prajapati said.

He added that the opportunity is great from an economic standpoint. India already supplies homeopathic medicines to over 100 countries, yet premium markets in Europe have remained relatively unable to penetrate Indian brands.

With internationally aligned certifications, experts estimate that Indian homeopathy exports could grow two to three times in the next five to seven years, especially in regulated markets.

“Another major advantage that India has over Germany is cost effectiveness without compromising on quality,” Dr. Prajapati said.

In the coming years, experts say the real competition with German brands will not be about legacy, but about who offers the most reliable, transparent and globally compatible homeopathic solutions.

“With AYUSH Premium and NABL as strong pillars, India looks poised to not only stand shoulder to shoulder with Germany, but to lead the next chapter of global homeopathy,” Dr. Prajapati asserted.
