NEW DELHI: The Women’s Press Corps of India on Sunday reaffirmed its commitment to supporting safe, equitable and empowering spaces for women in media, on the occasion of International Women’s Day.

In a statement, the Association of Women Journalists said that on this day it celebrates the remarkable contributions of women in the media across India, especially in the far-flung hinterlands, across diverse regions and languages where women continue to shape the public discourse.
“This International Women’s Day, we reaffirm our commitment to supporting safe, fair and empowering spaces for women in media. We salute their achievements, acknowledge their struggles and stand alongside them in advancing a media landscape that truly reflects the voices and aspirations of all,” the Women’s Press Corps of India said.
She further said that it is important for people to listen to what women have to say in this complex and ever-changing world, adding that they should have a say in the agendas that shape policies, systems and indeed the world.
She said that female journalists support democratic values, give a voice to communities, and capture the nuances and details of their lives and aspirations, especially in the current most challenging times.
The association said female journalists, editors, producers, photographers and storytellers have played a transformative role in enhancing the media landscape.
“Through their courage, professionalism and commitment to truth, they have brought critical issues to the forefront in complex situations from social justice and governance to gender equality and grassroots voices that might otherwise remain unheard,” he added.
The statement noted that in a field that often requires resilience in the face of structural barriers and safety challenges, women in Indian media have demonstrated extraordinary leadership and integrity.
She added that women have not only pushed the boundaries of journalism, but have also mentored the next generation of media professionals and inspired young women to pursue careers in storytelling, reporting and digital communication.
Their work continues to challenge stereotypes, highlight underrepresented viewpoints and promote a more inclusive and equitable society.
As India’s media ecosystem evolves in the digital age, the presence and leadership of women remains essential to ensure that the principles of fairness, accountability and diversity are maintained, IWPC said.
She added: “Women in media are well positioned and empowered to play this role. Let us continue to champion the power of women in media, today and every day, and most importantly to speak with a unified voice to advance women’s agency in the personal and professional spheres.”
