SS Rajamouli’s ambitious film ‘Varanasi’ seems to be positioning itself for a wider global release. The film starring Mahesh Babu, Priyanka Chopra and Prithviraj Sukumaran in lead roles was confirmed to release across India, but after its debut at CCXP Mexico 2026, rumors were rife that the makers might be planning a wide global release.
‘Varanasi’ movie to be released in Spanish?
Various reports online suggest that a Spanish-language version of the film may just be in the works. While there has been no official confirmation of this, the move seems to indicate that manufacturers are looking beyond local markets to tap into Spanish-speaking regions.If the rumors are true, this will be another Indian film set to be released in Spanish. Besides ‘Varanasi’, the 2026 cinema version of ‘Ramayana’, starring Ranbir Kapoor, Sai Pallavi and Yash, is also gearing up for a huge global release.
The film is described as featuring extensive AI-driven, lip-sync dubbed versions in more than 45 languages, including English, Japanese, Mandarin and Spanish.
While the film’s dialogues will be subtitled, the shlokas will reportedly remain in their original languages.
The “Varansai” videos were shown at CCXP Mexico
The film was recently screened at CCXP Mexico, where producer SS Karthikeya presented video clips to the audience. While it was initially thought that new footage would be revealed, it was later revealed that the team screened three separate videos to introduce the project and its scale.
As posted on social media, one of the videos reportedly explores the historical and cultural significance of Varanasi, drawing comparisons with ancient civilizations, including the Mayans and Aztecs. It also included behind-the-scenes glimpses.The second video reportedly focused on the film’s teaser launch event held at Ramoji Film City. The event, which was held last year, was unveiled to an audience of about 50,000 participants.
The third video included a message from Rajamouli along with the teaser, which was previously released online under the title ‘The World of Varanasi’. The footage was reportedly shown at the conference in a theatrical format.
Mahesh Babu was spotted in Amsterdam
Meanwhile, filming is in full swing. Leading man Mahesh Babu was spotted in Amsterdam posing with a fan for a photo. He has reportedly undergone fitness training for the upcoming schedule of ‘Varanasi’. According to reports, after completing the dance schedule with Priyanka, the film team is now gearing up to head to Antarctica to shoot on the Ross Ice Shelf.
The film is scheduled to be released in 2027.
