Are you ready to return to Gilead?
Chase Infinity, Ann Dowd and Lucy Halliday walked a purple carpet at the Academy Museum on Tuesday evening to celebrate the world premiere of their film. CovenantsHulu’s follow-up series to The Handmaid’s Tale.
Appointment after four years maid tale series finale, Covenants It follows Infinity’s Agnes and Halliday’s Daisy as they navigate coming of age in Gilead.
This show is Infiniti’s first project after becoming a star Battle after battleShe said that starring in this film prepared her to work with a large group of actors in another story about the revolution.
“The thing that One battle “It really prepared me, honestly, to work with an amazing group of girls,” the actress said. Hollywood Reporter. “I feel very lucky about that One battle She taught me how to work in an ensemble and form relationships with other actors. And I hope that the connection we’ve built on this show can extend beyond the screen as well.
maid Creator Bruce Miller returns as showrunner for Covenantswhich will premiere with three episodes on April 8. He shared that he chose Infinity in the lead role, in part, because she reminded him so much maid Star Elisabeth Moss.
“She was unpredictable. I didn’t know what she was going to do — not in a scary way, but I had no idea what she was going to say, whether she was going to turn left or right,” he explained. “And as a person, she is, too. She’s delightful, but you don’t know if she’s going to say whether she wants chocolate or vanilla ice cream, and no matter how much I know her, I don’t think I would know, which is wonderful. It was the same with Elisabeth Moss; she’s not fickle, but she’s unpredictable.”
Holo set the mood for the evening when twenty young women, dressed in the purple uniforms of Gilead’s wife-training school, walked in solemn unison down the carpet, each carrying a small pie, and boarded a bus with curtains covering the windows. The show follows the relationship that develops between Agnes and Daisy, and Halliday said the two actresses were able to cross boundaries because of their friendship off-screen.
“Working with Chase was great, and it wasn’t hard to show that friendship,” Halliday said. “The second I met Chase, we had such an instant connection. I landed the same day I landed in Toronto and we immediately went to dinner and I think having that relationship off screen really allowed for the feisty dynamic that you see on screen. We could really push each other and we weren’t afraid that we were going to offend this person or that they were going to hate us in the end because we knew we had that real friendship that we could count on.”
One of the defining features of Gilead are the aunts, women dedicated to imposing order who punish the girls in their care. Dodd returns to her career-defining role as Aunt Lydia, now the leader of the school where Agnes and Daisy attend.
“It felt great to be back. It’s a different Gilead,” Dodd confirmed. “Lydia had a time in between The Handmaid’s Tale And the beginning Covenants For her to really change and accept that she had to change who she was, so we see a different side of Lydia – a different, softer, kinder person who deals with younger girls, and they are still the girls she loves and who have always defined her life.
When asked if she had any advice for the new aunts played by Mabel Lee, Ava Foote and Zarin Darnell Martin, Dodd joked: “Always follow the rules!”
