Selina Jaitleywho filed for divorce from her husband Peter Haag last November at an Andheri court in Mumbai, opened up about the reality of her marriage in a deeply personal post on social media.
The divorce was filed on the grounds of domestic violence and abuse, which surprised many, especially since Selina often shared tender family moments with Haag and their children online. In her latest post, Selina reflected on what she calls a “15-year broken marriage” and the emotional toll of going through it.“My biggest lesson is: you can’t change someone by loving them more. Love can’t fix what’s already broken,” she wrote.
Celina Jaitley’s Court Battle: Divorce, Violence and Survival
“Marriage lived in letters of love, pain and survival”
Describing writing as her emotional refuge, Selina explained how words became her only voice when she felt unheard.“Everyone who follows my writing knows how I express myself best… What I used when I couldn’t speak, when I couldn’t be heard,” she shared, adding that letters became a way to save her marriage and protect her family. She said that her early works were attempts to “boost the male ego”, convey devotion and heal the rifts in relationships.
However, over time, the tone of her writing changed.“My letters began to reflect the reality I was living in. They talked about the abuse I witnessed and endured, the repeated silencing of my voice, the fact that I was not heard, and how I was constantly blamed,” she said.
“My acts of love were acts of endurance”
Addressing the assumptions often made about abusive marriages, Selina explained that public displays of affection do not negate suffering.“My acts of love were acts of endurance and survival, not proof of the absence of abuse,” she wrote, adding that many people stay in abusive relationships out of hope, fear, responsibility and love.“They stay and continue to show love not because they are weak, but because hope, fear, responsibility and love are often the tools that keep them alive,” she said.
What Celina Jaitley’s lawyer had to say about Peter Haag’s divorce filing
According to Selina’s lawyer, Peter Haag filed for divorce in an Austrian court last year after she allegedly discovered that a property in Vienna was being sold without her knowledge.
In the Austrian case, Haag is reportedly trying to prove that Selina has no claim to any of their joint property. In addition, the lawyer claimed that Haag blames Selina for the breakup of the marriage. While Selina demanded a divorce by mutual consent for the sake of their children, Haag did not want to agree.
Alimony, Custody and Compensation Claims
Represented by Karanjawala & Co., Selina demanded Rs 10 lakh per month as maintenance and asked the court to restrain Haag from entering her residence in Mumbai. She also sought custody of their three children, who now live with their father in Austria. The actor has also demanded Rs 50 crore as compensation, citing loss of earnings allegedly caused by her husband. Celina Jaitley and Peter Haag got married in 2010. In March 2012, the couple welcomed twin boys. Five years later, they were blessed with another set of twins, one of whom died tragically due to a hypoplastic heart.
