A new poll shows that most Americans are dissatisfied with the way President Donald Trump is running the country, especially on everyday issues like prices, jobs and relations with other countries. The ABC News/Washington Post/Ipsos poll was conducted via Ipsos’ KnowledgePanel, before the Supreme Court struck down Trump’s previous global tariffs.

The rejection rate approached 60%, as many doubted Trump’s suitability for the position. (Reuters)

The poll showed that about two out of three Americans disapprove of how Trump is handling inflation. Also, six out of ten do not like the way he deals with customs tariffs on imported goods, while 62% do not agree with the way he deals with foreign relations. The report stated that 58% of participants said they opposed the way immigration was being dealt with, while 57% said the overall economy could be handled better. On none of these issues did Trump receive clear approval from the public.

However, Americans do not fully trust Democrats in Congress either. When asked who they trust most to solve the biggest problems facing the country, people were split almost evenly between Trump (33%), Democrats (31%), or “no one” (31%). This showed that many Americans are dissatisfied with both sides, according to the report.

The weakest ratings for Trump came from Democrats and independents, who mostly rejected him on every issue. But Republicans were divided. The report noted that those who strongly supported the Make America Great Again (MAGA) movement mostly approved of Trump’s actions, while Republicans who did not sympathize with MAGA were more critical, especially on issues such as inflation and foreign policy.

Overall, Trump’s disapproval rate was about 60%, which is one of the highest levels he has encountered during his second term and similar to the numbers he had when he left office in 2021.

Meanwhile, views on the economy also remained bleak. Nearly half of Americans said things have gotten worse since Trump took office. Only about three in ten said the economy had improved. Only 22% of survey participants felt their financial situation had improved, while most said their situation was the same or worse.

The poll also raised concerns about Trump’s fitness to hold office. More than half of Americans said he does not have the mental intelligence needed to be president, and about half said he is not physically healthy enough, according to the report. Republicans mostly disagreed, but Democrats and independents strongly shared these concerns.

Trust was another major concern. About seven in ten Americans said Trump is not honest or trustworthy. Many also believed he was using the presidency for his personal gain, and the majority felt he had exceeded his legal powers.

Regarding specific measures, most Americans opposed reducing recommended vaccines for children and did not support using the US military to impose changes in other countries. Many also felt that the administration was not being open about sensitive matters such as the Jeffrey Epstein files.

The poll was conducted among more than 2,500 adults across the United States and painted a picture of a deeply divided and dissatisfied public.
