A 2-year-old golden retriever abandoned at Harry Reid International Airport in Las Vegas has found a loving home with one of the police officers who rescued him.

The dog, nicknamed Jet Blue, was adopted by Las Vegas Police Officer Skeeter Black after he was left tied up at the ticket counter when his previous owner was denied boarding without proper documentation for a service dog, the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) announced on social media platforms.
“Heartbreaking” abandonment.
The puppy was discovered on February 2, 2026, inside Terminal 3, strapped to a baggage monitor. Police said the woman who brought him tried to leave the airport, leaving the JetBlue plane behind.

Responding officers tracked her down and arrested her on charges of animal abandonment and resisting arrest, though she made no effort to retrieve the dog afterward.
LVMPD described the scene as “heartbreaking” and stressed the quick response by airport staff and officers to ensure the dog’s safety.
Rescue and adoption
Jet Blue was held at Retriever Rescue of Las Vegas, where he was cared for until his adoption was finalized. LVMPD shared touching photos and videos of Officer Black with Jet Blue, showing the pup settling into his new home.

“What began as a heartbreaking act of abandonment turned into a powerful example of compassion, teamwork and community partnership,” the department wrote.
Happy ending
Police confirmed that Officer Black and his family received pre-approval from the adoption agency months ago, and were already hoping to welcome the golden animatronic into their home. Once Jet Blue was available, the family quickly made the choice to provide a loving environment for the dog.
“Today, Jet Blue’s next flight begins this time, surrounded by the people who stepped in when he needed it most,” LVMPD said. “Bon voyage, JetBlue, and welcome to a new life where you will be loved beyond measure by Officer Black and his family.”
