‘Lift the blockade’: Iran sets condition for round two of peace talks in PakistanIn an interview reported by Tasnim News Agency, Iravani said the blockade amounts to a violation of the ceasefire and must be removed before any diplomatic engagement. “The naval blockade imposed by the United States… is a violation of the ceasefire. We told them that they should break this blockade… Once this blockade is broken, I think the next round of negotiations will be held,” he added.

He added that Iran remained open to dialogue, but warned that it was equally prepared for conflict.

“If they want to sit at the table and discuss… they will find us ready,” Iravani said. “If they want to go to war, then in this case Iran is also ready.”

The ceasefire was extended, and mistrust persisted

These statements come amid a fragile extension of the ceasefire announced by US President Donald Trump, who said that the truce will continue to allow time for negotiations. However, as the Associated Press reported, there remains uncertainty over the next round of talks, with both sides warning of renewed fighting if an agreement is not reached.

Trump confirmed that the blockade will continue, arguing that it is necessary to put pressure on Iran. He also claimed that Tehran secretly wants to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, saying Iran is losing “US$500 million per day” due to the obstruction, according to ANI.

Escalating tensions in the Strait, and intensifying military warnings

Tensions around the Strait of Hormuz remain high, with the vital waterway at the heart of the conflict. ANI reported that a container ship recently came under fire from the Iranian Revolutionary Guard, causing severe damage, even though no casualties were reported.Iran has defended such actions, saying the ships ignored warnings, while also indicating a willingness to escalate. As Al Jazeera reported, the Revolutionary Guards warned that it would “deal crushing blows” to its enemies in the event of renewed conflict. With the blockade persisting and deep mistrust on both sides, the path to diplomacy remains uncertain, while risks to global energy supplies and maritime security continue to grow.
