House of the Dragon fans have become hooked on the battles and bloodshed in Season 3, but according to the latest reports, the makers of the series are getting closer to the end of the saga. Showrunner Ryan Condal revealed that the writing team has completed scripts for the series’ fourth and final season and has begun submitting initial drafts to HBO.Speaking on the Scriptnotes podcast, Condal shared that the creative team is now handing over first drafts of Season 4 scripts to the network as development continues on the final installment of the Game of Thrones prequel. According to reports, Season 4 is expected to conclude the story of the Targaryen Civil War, known as the Dance of Dragons.During the conversation, Condal also revealed that production on the final season is expected to begin in early 2027, with filming scheduled to take place in several countries.
Season 4 will conclude the series
The update comes after reports previously confirmed that House of the Dragon is designed to end with four seasons. Although it took some time for HBO to officially renew Season 4, the network has now positioned it as the series’ final chapter, concluding George R.R. Martin’s Fire & Blood adaptation.However, with this chapter wrapping up, fans who have stuck with the series since “Game Of Thrones” may have to brace themselves for another heartbreaking ending for House Targaryen.
“HOTD” premiered on a two-year production schedule
Condal recently explained that the production schedule for House of the Dragon remains extraordinarily demanding given its scale and extensive visual effects. The extensive post-production process, particularly the creation of the show’s dragon sequences and visual effects, contributed to the two-year gaps between seasons.
