With the latest shutdown, several federal workers in the United States are likely to miss paychecks.
The shutdown is expected to last several weeks as Congress retires without a deal on Democratic demands to enact new limits on tactics by visible immigration officials.

While most DHS functions are set to be affected with the latest development, US Immigration and Customs Enforcement, US Customs and Border Protection and the Transportation Security Administration will continue to operate, according to the Associated Press.
As a result, immigration operations, citizenship processing, airport security, cyber security and Coast Guard operations will continue to operate during the shutdown.
When the shutdown takes effect Saturday, DHS employees are asked to report to work and begin an orderly shutdown on their next regularly scheduled shift.
Disagreement over Democrats’ demandsThe White House and Democrats continued to disagree over a list of demands to limit ICE operations. Democrats have demanded body cameras and judicial warrants for ICE agents, banning the use of masks and expanding provisions to sue DHS for alleged misconduct.

Democrats have said they won’t help authorize more money for DHS until there are new restrictions on federal agents after the murders of Alex Pretty and Renee Goode in Minneapolis last month.
Although the White House has been negotiating with Democrats, the two sides have failed to reach an agreement. Democrats are expected to draft a revised list of demands and send it to the White House.
