Alia Bhatt, Bobby Deol's Alpha teaser faces plagiarism charges; Fans note similarities to La Femme Nikita and American Sniper

The teaser of Alpha, starring Alia Bhatt and Sharvari, was unveiled on Wednesday and quickly became a talking point on social media. While many fans praised the action-packed take on YRF’s first female-led spy thriller, others accused the filmmakers of borrowing scenes and ideas from international blockbusters, including French classic La Femme Nikita and American Sniper. The teaser offers an important moment involving Bobby Deol’s character and Alia Bhatt’s spy in training. In the scene, Bobby takes his daughter, whom he has trained from a young age to become a spy, to an upscale restaurant on her eighteenth birthday. However, instead of celebrating, he assigns her her first mission – to carry out a murder.Initially disappointed because she expected a birthday celebration, Alya’s character eventually accepts and completes the mission.Shortly after the teaser was released, social media users began comparing the sequence to a scene from the film La Femme Nikita, directed by Luc Besson. In the French thriller, Bob, played by Txiki Cariou, takes Nikita, played by Anne Parillaud, a trained assassin, to a fancy restaurant. What appears to be a private outing soon turns into a mission when he hands her a gun and orders her to kill three people. Many users claimed that the similarities between the two scenes are hard to ignore.

One social media user shared a clip from the French film and wrote: “The opening scene is loosely copied from the scene in Luc Besson’s classic action film La Femme Nikita.”Another commented: “The opening scene is 90% copied from the scene in Luc Besson’s classic action film La Femme Nikita. The plot is similar too.”

The comparison of a wolf to a sheep also raises comparisons

Aside from the restaurant sequence, some viewers have pointed out that the wolf and sheep metaphor in the teaser resembles a famous monologue from American Sniper. The comparison sparked controversy online, with some fans accusing the filmmakers of recycling ideas from popular international films, while others argued that the similarities do not necessarily amount to plagiarism and should be viewed in the context of the film’s overall narrative.
