Robert De Niro is one of the most loved and respected actors in the Hollywood industry. Over the years, the New York native has amassed a significant amount of wealth from his businesses and ventures, much of which he has invested in building an extensive real estate portfolio.
Over the years, the actor has been vocal about his love for his home state and how there’s no other place like New York for him. His love for New York knows no bounds, as most of his properties are spread throughout the region. From Greenwich Village to his home in Montauk Beach, here’s a look at the beloved Hollywood star’s extensive body of work in New York.
Robert D Nero Premier cottage in the West Village
This was once the actor’s primary residence, where he lived for over 37 years.
The New York Post previously reported that the actor has owned this amazing house since 1975 for $190,000. The Italian-style house spans 5,000 square feet and has three bedrooms. Not only that, one of the most distinctive features of this property is the fact that it has 12-foot ceilings for perfect spacing.
The house was originally built in 1852, and De Niro sold it in 2012 for US$9.5 million.
Ulster County property
In 1997, the “Heat” actor spent $1.5 million on this beautiful estate located in the small town of Gardiner, New York.
At the time, he had just married socialite Grace Hightower. The house extends over an area of 2,222 square feet, while it is located on a plot of land of 78 acres. The actor renovated the space to his liking, and it later consisted of six bedrooms, seven bathrooms, and a barn that was later remodeled into a 14,000-square-foot entertainment center.
This center houses many private facilities for De Niro and his family, including a gym, boxing room, game room, swimming pool, sauna, basketball court, and film studio.
Robert De Niro’s stunning beach house in Montauk that he inherited from his father
This stunning Montauk estate was an inheritance he received from his late father, painter Robert De Niro Sr. After his death in 1993, the 1.5-acre lot and 2,278-square-foot house were left to “The Intern” actor. Although not much is known about the beach house, it was once reported that the house featured an outdoor terrace area alone that spanned 740 square feet. In 2017, he applied to demolish the property so he could rebuild a larger home.
However, his request was rejected at that time.
The apartment that burned down was on the fifth floor on the Upper West Side
He and Hightower co-owned the property and bought it together in 2006 for US$20.9 million. Not many details have been announced about the luxury apartment on the fifth floor. However, in 2012, when the couple was out of the country, CBS News reported that the luxury apartment and much of the building it was in burned down due to a fire caused by a dryer. After their return, the couple had to find different accommodations until the apartment was renovated.
In 2018, Hightower and De Niro officially separated, and in 2025, the social star sold the apartment for US$18 million.
Greenwich Hotel Daughter-in-law
De Niro is a New Yorker, so much so that he has invested in several businesses throughout the state. This also includes the Greenwich Hotel, which the famous actor owns with Ira Drucker. Due to his ownership, De Niro owns one of the penthouse properties located on top of the hotel building.
Inspired by the Japanese concept of “wabi-sabi,” the actor hired Belgian designer Axel Vervoordt and Japanese architect Tatsuro Miike in 2014 to renovate and build penthouse apartments to embody the feeling of finding beauty in imperfection. While speaking about the property to The Hollywood Reporter, the actor stated that Tribeca has its own atmosphere and feel. Axel wanted to respect that and create elements of the city.
“It’s more than just interior design: it’s art.” Speaking with Architectural Digest, Vervoordt added that “the industrial treatment of the upper part is in perfect harmony with the building below.” Using wood, stone and other similar elements, the 6,800-square-foot unit was decorated and remodeled from top to bottom.
Neutral tones and colors were used throughout the house to ensure it fit well with the theme and overall ambiance.
While De Niro partially owns the property, guests are free to reserve the three-bedroom, two-and-a-half-bath unit as well.
The 35th floor space is on the Upper West Side
In 2012, the veteran star also rented a luxury apartment unit located on the 35th floor. According to reports, he was paying $125,000 per month for the rent of the 6,000-square-foot property. Located on Central Park West, it has five bedrooms and six bathrooms. The property was put up for sale, according to Architectural Digest in 2014, for US$55 million.
Greenwich Village duplex
This was Hightower and De Niro’s home after a devastating fire burned down their luxury home. The property was previously built as a manufacturing facility in 1920. They rented the space for a while until their apartment was rebuilt. The property overlooks a stunning courtyard area and has an entire wall dedicated to large windows overlooking the landscape outside. The two-story foyer was a unique design addition to the rental property.
The space also included personal spaces as well, including three wood-burning fireplaces, a library, and a master suite. The building spans 11,000 square feet and has five bedrooms and four-and-a-half bathrooms. The couple stayed in the rented property for two years.
Robert De Niro’s property in London
The actor owns a single property in London, which he bought for $1 million in 2001. The loft upstairs was a jam factory and included two bedrooms measuring 2,100 square feet. Not much is known about this residence in London. However, it was put on the market in 2018 for US$2.16 million.
