Sunaina Roshan, the sister of Bollywood star Hrithik Roshan, spoke candidly about the life-threatening health crisis she suffered after going on a crash diet in 2001. In a recent social media video, Sunaina revealed that her obsession with rapid weight loss weakened her immunity and led to tuberculous meningitis, a condition that left her family fearing for her life.As part of her ongoing health journey series, Sunaina shared details of the difficult period and urged people to avoid taking shortcuts when it comes to health and nutrition.
“I had no consciousness for two or three days.”
Recalling the ordeal, Sunaina said that after being admitted to the hospital, she remained unaware of her surroundings for several days.“In Part 1, I shared how a crash diet led me to the hospital. What happened next could have changed my life forever. For two or three days, I was unconscious.
Dr. Udwadia told my family that it could lead to paralysis, loss of vision or even coma. “They didn’t know what would happen next,” she added.She added that the uncertainty surrounding her condition has severely affected her family members.
Hrithik Roshan prayed for her recovery
Sunaina revealed that her brother Hrithik spent a night praying for her safety in the temple during the critical phase of her illness.“My brother even spent the night in a temple praying for me to recover.
The doctor said the first sign of recovery was that I would ask for food, and days later, that’s exactly what I did. That moment changed everything for my family.”
Long road to recovery
Health concerns led to a long recovery process. Sunaina revealed that she spent a month in the hospital after being diagnosed with tuberculous meningitis, and then stayed at home for another four months to prevent a relapse.She said: “I was in the hospital for a month after I was diagnosed with tuberculous meningitis. Then I was stuck at home for another four months to avoid a relapse. I took heavy medications, all because my immunity collapsed. The reason? A crash diet.”Reflecting on this experience, I emphasized that no weight loss goal is worth risking your health.“That’s when I realized that no goal is worth risking your life. Always choose nutrition over shortcuts.”

Along with the video, Sunaina posted a heartfelt message about the incident and the lessons she learned from it.“In 2001, a crash diet led me down a path I never imagined. It completely changed the way I think about health, nutrition, and the shortcuts we often tend to take,” she wrote.

How it all started

Determined to lose weight, she resorted to a crash diet, unaware that it would eventually damage her immune system and lead to serious health complications.Through her story, Sunaina hopes to raise awareness about the dangers of strict dieting and encourage people to adopt healthier and more sustainable approaches to fitness and weight loss.
