The impact of the American-Iranian conflict is clear Morbi district in Gujarat, where nearly 100 ceramic manufacturing units were closed due to disruption in fuel supply.
According to Morbi Ceramic Manufacturers Association (Vitrified Tile Section) President Manoj Arvadia, the situation may worsen in the coming days if propane supplies are not restored and suppliers fail to issue clear guidelines.
“Due to the prevailing war-like situation, propane gas has not been available for the past two days, and about 100 units that depend on the fuel have already been closed,” the agency quoted Arvadia as saying.
He warned that nearly 400 more propane units may have to cease operations within a week if the supply situation does not improve.
“If there is no proper guidance on gas availability and supply does not return to normal, we expect about 400 more propane units to be closed by next week,” he said.
Morbi is one of the largest ceramic manufacturing centers in the world, with hundreds of units manufacturing tiles and other ceramic products for domestic and international markets.
Units relying on gas supplied by Gujarat Gas are currently operational, but their future also looks uncertain due to limited availability, Arvadia said. He added that the Chief Minister of Gujarat Bhupendra Patel expressed concern about the situation.
The American-Iranian war
The United States and Israel launched military strikes on Iran on February 28. The killing of Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Since then, the crisis has developed into a war that has disrupted life and trade throughout West Asia.
Iran launched several strikes on American assets in the region, including military bases, embassies, and others. Tehran’s drones and missiles led to the closure of many oil and gas fields in the region. Moreover, passing through The Strait of Hormuz, the route through which a fifth of the world’s fuel supply chain passes, has also become problematic.
All of this has disrupted oil and gas supplies, leading to a sharp rise in crude oil prices.
