Indian couple dancing at WWII Memorial in Washington DC goes viral and draws criticism: 'Send back H1-Bs'

A video showing two Indians dancing while filming a social media video at the World War II Memorial in Washington, D.C., sparked controversy with netizens who said such behavior was inappropriate at a site dedicated to wartime sacrifice. The short clip, which has now gone viral, shows the duo dancing in the memorial square. The video received millions of views with many users arguing that the war memorial is a place of respect and not entertainment content. The video’s location only added to the controversy. The National World War II Memorial on the National Mall in Washington, D.C., opened in 2004 to honor the 16 million Americans who served in the U.S. Armed Forces during World War II.

It also commemorates the more than 400,000 Americans who lost their lives during the conflict and recognizes the contribution made by civilians on the home front. The memorial is located between the Lincoln Memorial and the Washington Monument. It has 56 granite columns arranged around a large open courtyard with a fountain. These columns represent the American states and territories during the war. There are two large arches at the site representing victory in the Atlantic and Pacific regions.

Visitors usually come to the memorial to learn about the history of the war and honor those who served. Many wander the square, read the inscriptions and plaques, and spend time thinking about the events commemorated there. Some social media users also claimed that the individuals in the video were working in the United States on H-1B visas and suggested they should be sent back. However, there has been no confirmation regarding their identities or visa status.“An Indian couple working in the US on H-1B visas went to the World War II Memorial in Washington DC and danced there amid the ongoing war between Iran and the US,” a social media user said.Another said: “This is extremely disrespectful to all Americans and their families who served in the armed forces and as civilians during World War II.”A third user commented: “H1B visas make Americans laugh because they allow ourselves to be discriminated against in our country.”User Foruth said: “I have seen this complete lack of respect for our heritage and history many times by these people. The only solution is to get them out of the soil we paid so dearly for. Put them back where they came from.”
