A reporter asked Carolyn Leavitt if the Trump administration has a social media problem.
People have questions about the recent social media activity of President Donald Trump and Vice President J.D. Vance. Of course, White House press secretary Carolyn Leavitt had to try to answer (or not answer) these questions. Controversial posts from Trump administration officials, or even official White House accounts, are nothing new. So the fact that people are now wondering if the White House has a “social media problem” shows just how bad things are. However, Levitt insists that this obvious problem that people have noticed does not actually exist.
First, Trump sparked outrage with his racist “Social Truth” post.
The post depicted Barack and Michelle Obama as monkeys. Initially, Levitt defended the matter, claiming that it was “from an online video that portrays President Trump as the King of the Jungle and Democrats as characters from The Lion King.” She also said: “Please stop the fake outrage and report today on something that actually matters to the American public.” But the post was later deleted and a staff member was blamed.
Trump claimed he “did nothing wrong.” He said he looks at a lot of content and only watched part of the clip before sharing it with someone else who he thought would “look at the whole thing.”
He noted that his employees didn’t watch the entire clip either, and “may have had the sense to delete it” if they had.
Vance then addressed his blunder on social media.
Just days after Trump shared his racist “Social Truth” post, Vance shared a post about his time in Armenia that was later deleted. In the post, Vance said he visited the Armenian Genocide Memorial “to honor the victims of the Armenian Genocide.” However, the Trump administration does not use the term “Armenian Genocide.” (But the Biden administration did.)
Once again, an employee was blamed for this error. The employee who reportedly wrote the post was not traveling with Vance.
So, who is making all these social media mistakes?
People have wondered before who runs the official White House social media accounts, but these two back-to-back errors have exacerbated concerns about the Trump administration’s social media presence. During the press conference on Tuesday, February 10, a reporter asked Levitt about the errors, mentioning Trump’s post and Vance’s post before asking: “Is the White House having a social media problem right now?” The journalist also added: “Do you have an auto-post issue that leads to these errors?”
Levitt’s answer was brief, and she did not comment at all on Trump’s racist post when responding. She said: “No.” “As for the Armenian tweet you’re referring to, I would just refer you back to the White House letter that was issued on Armenian Memorial Day. There has been no change in policy at this time.”
