The Indian High Commission in Canberra on Thursday expressed deep appreciation for Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese’s remarks in the Australian Parliament, where he highlighted India’s important role and lauded the Indian community’s contribution in strengthening Australia.

In a post on X, the High Commission said the Prime Minister’s words reflect the growing strength of the India-Australia comprehensive strategic partnership, built on shared democratic values ​​and vibrant people-to-people relations.

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese in his remarks said how India is one of the largest developing economies and added: “This is an extraordinary opportunity for us in our region. We are a Pacific country, but we are also an Indian Ocean country as well. Our trade relationship has been strengthened through the Economic Cooperation and Trade Agreement, and we are also coming closer together through culture, education and the international language of cricket.”

Recalling his visits to India, he said: “It is a wonderful experience to see first-hand the warmth there. Likewise, I will have the honor of hosting Prime Minister Modi here soon, an honor I look forward to repeating for the second time.”

Albanese noted that Prime Minister Modi’s visit would be exceptional for the million-strong Indian-Australian community – the largest and growing migrant community in Australia. He praised the community for its hard work and for strengthening the Australian economy as well as strengthening the community.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday met Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong and discussed the India-Australia comprehensive strategic partnership.

In a post on X, Prime Minister Modi said India and Australia will continue to work for a free, open, secure and prosperous Indo-Pacific region.

“I am pleased to receive Senator Penny Wong, Australian Foreign Minister. We discussed the growing comprehensive strategic partnership between India and Australia in areas such as defence, trade, technology and ensuring supply chain resilience. India and Australia will continue to work towards a free, open, secure and prosperous Indo-Pacific,” Prime Minister Modi said.

Wong was in India to participate in the Quad foreign ministers’ meeting.

During her visit, she also joined External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar at the 17th Foreign Ministers’ Framework Dialogue in New Delhi.

Wong stressed that Australia remains “committed to remaining a reliable partner” to India, stressing the depth and growing importance of bilateral relations.

The dialogue reviewed the steady progress of the comprehensive strategic partnership. The leaders discussed economic and energy issues, including cooperation in renewable and nuclear energy, defense and maritime security, science and technology, cyber issues, critical minerals, space and sports.

They also exchanged views on the Indo-Pacific region, the situation in West Asia, and other regional, global and multilateral issues.
