Accused in the Meghalaya honeymoon murder case, Sonam Raghuvanshi’s family has publicly distanced themselves from her days after she was granted bail by a court in the north-eastern state.

Her elder brother, Govind Raghuvanshi, made it clear that the family would not support her legally or accept her return home, underscoring the complete breakdown of relations in the wake of the case.
“I had no knowledge of Sonam’s bail application. I learned about her bail from the media. I did not appoint a lawyer to help my sister,” news agency PTI quoted Govind, an Indore-based businessman, as saying.

“I traveled because of court orders,” says the brother
His statement comes as their father, Devi Singh Raghuvanshi, was seen in Shillong completing the formalities related to Sonam’s release. Speaking about this, Govind claimed that his father had traveled there on “court orders” and had since returned, the report added.
He added, “We have left Sonam to her fate. Our family is clear that they will not keep Sonam in our home here.”
The case dates back to May 23 last year, when transport businessman Raja Raghuvanshi disappeared during his honeymoon in Meghalaya.
His mutilated body was found on June 2 in a deep ravine near a waterfall in Sahra, in the East Khasi Hills district. Later, investigators arrested Sonam, along with several other people, including her alleged boyfriend, on charges of conspiring to kill her husband.

Raja Raghuvanshi’s brother says he now “fears for his life”.
The latest statements from Govind come amid rising tensions between the two families after Sonam was released on bail. Vipin, Raja Raghuvanshi’s elder brother, claimed that he feared for his life from Sonam and her associates, and accused her family of betrayal and breach of trust.
Reacting to the allegations, Govind said he was “speechless” and asserted that Raja’s family was free to pursue any legal recourse.
Notably, soon after Sonam’s arrest on June 9, 2025, Govind visited Raja’s house, where he was seen breaking down and consoling the victim’s mother.
At that time, he confirmed that his family had cut all ties with Sonam and pledged to seek the death penalty.
