The skeletal remains of a 35-year-old woman were discovered at a farm in Bengaluru rural district on Thursday, police said, adding that an investigation is underway into the circumstances of her death with links to a previously registered missing person’s case.

According to police, the remains were found in a field in Hale Nijagal village in Nelamangala taluk, on the outskirts of Bengaluru. The discovery was made by the farm owner, Nagaraju, who noticed a skull and limb bones while working on his land and informed the Dabaspet police.
The forces arrived at the scene, secured the area, and began collecting evidence. A bag and identification card found near the remains helped investigators identify the woman as Yamuna, a resident of Tumakuru.
The police said that her family members were informed and brought to the site to confirm their identity.
Yamuna was reported missing on March 10 and a case has already been registered at Kayathasandra police station in Tumakuru. The recovery of the remains has now shifted the focus of this case.
Bengaluru Rural Police Superintendent M V Chandra Kanth said the investigation was being conducted on multiple fronts. He added: “We have secured the scene and collected all possible evidence. The skeletal remains have been sent for forensic examination. At this stage, we are verifying whether this is a case of death or unnatural homicide.”
He added that investigators were reviewing the previous missing person case and speaking to individuals connected to the woman. “We are also examining the previously registered missing persons case and are interrogating individuals associated with the victim,” he added. Police said a doctor conducted an autopsy on the body at Nelamangala Taluk Government Hospital. Forensic experts are expected to conduct further analysis to determine the cause of death and the approximate time of death.
Investigators are also working to reconstruct Yamuna’s last known movements and interactions in the days before her disappearance.
