TVK Party candidate, N. Mary Wilson, his party president Vijay, during a meeting held here on Thursday, instructed the candidates to report at the counting centers early in the morning before the counting begins and “not to move an inch”.

Speaking to the media, RK Nagar candidate Wilson said: “Vijay asked us (TVK candidates) to be at the counting centers by 6 am, and advised us to stay ahead and closely monitor the proceedings, without moving an inch.”

Elections to the 234-seat Tamil Nadu Assembly were held on April 23, and the counting of votes is scheduled to take place on May 4.

TVK candidates met Vijay to discuss their campaign experiences as well as May 4 preparations.

Wilson said they also shared their ground-level observations from their election contest for the first time with the party leader.

Describing Vijay as a “very good listener”, Wilson said the field issues faced during the elections – including reported friction between TVK and DMK cadres in certain parts of Chennai – were reported, and the leadership took note of the events.

Responding to queries about the recent polls giving an advantage to the DMK, Wilson clarified that no polls were discussed during their meeting with Vijay.

He said he prefers to rely on “the reality on the ground,” noting that after traveling and interacting directly with the public for nearly 30 days, they are quite confident that the results will be in their favor because voters have “already decided.”

He also dismissed the ongoing speculation about a possible alliance with the AIADMK.

Wilson added: “This matter has been going on for some time, and has been reported by the media and some senior journalists over the past six months.”

Thiruparankundram candidate and TVK spokesperson CT Nirmal Kumar said the state witnessed an unprecedented election marked by a desire among the public for sweeping political change.

Voters from rival camps, including the DMK and AIADMK, have shifted their support towards TVK, Kumar told reporters at the TVK headquarters in Paniyur.

“This is an election like you have never seen before; it was like a festival celebrated by the people of Tamil Nadu. People from all walks of life – from children to the elderly – are eagerly waiting for change, and their expectations will not be proven wrong. We have seen DMK and AIADMK voters casting their votes for us because they want transformation,” Kumar said.

The TVK leader further alleged that the ruling DMK party, fearing electoral defeat, resorted to violence and intimidation against TVK employees.

“We have already drawn the attention of the DGP and Election Commission to these matters, seeking additional protection for our employees in areas like Saidapet and KVK. The DMK is unleashing chaos for fear of losing, but they will receive a befitting response from the people on May 4,” Kumar added.

Kumar also said that further instructions will be issued to the winning candidates after the results are announced.
