Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit President Draupadi Murmu’s family village at Bahadpur in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district on June 20 and will participate in several programmes, officials said.

Bahadpur, the native village of Murmu’s late husband Shyam Charan Murmu, is about 20 km from Rairangpur, where the country’s main event marking the second anniversary of the BJP government in Odisha will be held.

Draupadi Murmu was born in Upparbida village in Rairangpur district and was married to Shyam Charan Murmu of Bahadpur. Her husband and two sons died before she took over as chief in 2022. A memorial to Murmu’s husband and sons has been set up in the village.
According to officials, a mega public event will be held at Dandabush in Rairangpur on June 20. The event will be attended by the President and Prime Minister, along with Odisha Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati, Prime Minister Mohan Sharan Majhi and other dignitaries.
During the program, several development projects will be inaugurated, foundation stones will be laid for new infrastructure initiatives, and dignitaries will address a public gathering.
“Before the public event, the President and the Prime Minister will visit Bahadpur village, where they are scheduled to participate in local programs and tour an exhibition showcasing regional achievements and initiatives,” an official statement issued by the state government said.
Meanwhile, the Odisha government has intensified preparations for the visit of dignitaries to Mayurbhanj district.
President Murmu is scheduled to arrive in Rairangpur on June 19, while the Prime Minister will join the state-level celebrations on June 20.
Ahead of the visit, Chief Secretary Anu Garg chaired a high-level review meeting on Saturday and directed officials to complete all preparations within the stipulated time frame.
The meeting was attended by senior officials of the Center and the state government, along with other stakeholders. Officials from Mayurbhanj district, including the Collector, East Cluster Inspector and Superintendent of Police, participated virtually.
Discussions focused on security arrangements, protocol management, convoy movement, helipad preparedness, airport logistics, accommodation, healthcare facilities, fire safety, uninterrupted power and drinking water supply, road infrastructure, sanitation, communications and media coordination.
Home Ministry Special Secretary Radha Kishan Sharma gave a detailed report on the status of preparations.
The Chief Secretary stressed the need for smooth coordination between departments and district authorities, regular monitoring of progress and strict adherence to timelines. She directed the officials to ensure the highest standards of security, protocol and logistical management during the visit of the President and Prime Minister.
After the meeting, Eastern District Director Pinak Mishra said that about 150 platoons of police forces, in addition to senior officers, will be deployed as part of security arrangements for the event.
Earlier on Thursday, Odisha Director General of Police YP Khurania visited Mayurbhanj and reviewed the preparations for the state government’s second anniversary programme. He ordered the police personnel to remain vigil along the inter-state border areas to ensure foolproof security.
The DGP also inspected the routes to be used by the President and the Prime Minister and reviewed the arrangements at the locations scheduled to be visited by Murmu during her two-day tour of Odisha, officials said.
