Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to visit the US in December to attend the G20 summit, US Ambassador to India Sergio Gore said on Monday (local time), adding that Washington would “love” for the Prime Minister to visit the country again.

Speaking on the sidelines of the 9th USISPF Leadership Summit 2026, Gore said Secretary of State Marco Rubio extended an invitation to Modi during his recent visit to India. He also expressed confidence that the interim trade agreement between India and the United States will be concluded “sooner rather than later”, while noting that President Donald Trump remains closely involved in bilateral relations.
Speaking to news agency ANI on the sidelines of the summit, Gaur said: “I have been with the President for 10 years, so a big part of the conversation was like two friends joining forces… But I also told him about my visits to India… I also spoke to him about the growing trade relations. On both sides, we see companies coming here and going there every week, and it is a win-win situation for both of them.”
Regarding the negotiations on the interim trade deal between India and the United States and the role of US Trade Representative Jamison Greer, Gore said: “Ambassador Greer has the full confidence of the President, and so we are close to finalizing that. But these are complex legal matters, and this is not a single page. We have thousands of items between our two countries that we are working on. So the fact that we have gone this far, this is a great sign for the relationship, and I hope that we will also be able to wrap this up sooner rather than later.”
“The relationship between Trump and Modi was the envy of the world.”
Meanwhile, USISPF Senior Advisor Emeritus Al Mason on Monday [local time] He said Indo-US relations had regained “historic momentum” and credited US Ambassador to India Sergio Gore with helping revive relations between US President Donald Trump and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
“The historic relationship between Trump and Modi, once the envy of the world, has entered a very difficult phase. Trade, domestic priorities, bureaucratic challenges, and media hype.” Annie quoted Mason as saying.

Addressing the IX USISPF 2026 Leadership Summit in Washington, D.C., Mason said the relationship between the two leaders went through a difficult period before it was revitalized.
He said that Sergio Gore played a key role in restoring contact between the two leaders. “President Trump then brought the exceptionally talented friend, Sergio Gore, into the story to reconnect the two old friends,” he said.
According to Mason, Gore delivered three key messages from President Trump to Prime Minister Modi.
“To Prime Minister Modi himself,” he said [Gor] He conveyed three basic truths: President Trump respects India’s rise, President Trump admires Prime Minister Modi’s leadership, and President Trump wants a stronger India-US relationship.
Modi’s upcoming visit to the United States
When Gore was asked about the possibility of President Trump visiting India on the sidelines of the summit, he said: “It’s not anytime during the midterm elections. It has to be somewhere next year…and we would like that to happen sooner rather than later.”
Speaking about Prime Minister Modi’s visit to the US, Gore said: “Secretary Marco Rubio invited Prime Minister Modi during his visit… We love having him back here. I know he will be coming in December for the G20 summit.”
Commenting on the upcoming quadrilateral meeting in the Philippines, Gore said the aim was to build on what had already happened in New Delhi, which included those maritime options in Fiji and elsewhere. “Pacific security is of vital importance to all four countries… We want to make this a regular occurrence, not just once or twice a year,” he said.
In separate remarks during one of the summit sessions, Gore recalled how Trump once suddenly asked for a phone call with Prime Minister Modi when it was 6 a.m. in India, saying the prime minister would be awake.
“I was at an event with President Trump. He suddenly said let’s call Prime Minister Modi. I told him it’s six in the morning in India. But Trump said Modi will wake up. He’s like me. He doesn’t sleep,” Gore said at the USISPF Leadership Summit.
Earlier on May 23, US Ambassador to India Sergio Gore said that Secretary of State Marco Rubio on behalf of US President Donald Trump extended an invitation to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to visit the White House.
The American envoy said in a post on the X website: “News! Secretary Marco Rubio, on behalf of President Donald Trump, extended an invitation to Prime Minister Modi to visit the White House in the near future!”
The invitation was extended during Rubio’s state visit to India from May 23 to 26. The 2026 G20 Miami Summit is scheduled to be held December 14-15 at the Trump National Doral Miami Resort in Doral, Florida. This 21st G20 meeting will be the first time the United States has hosted a leaders’ summit since 2009.
