Aizawl, April 2 Mizoram Police have busted multiple smuggling units over the past week and seized drugs, mainly heroin and methamphetamine, worth an estimated Rs. $25.01 crore in various locations in the state, a senior officer said.

The campaign, which spanned from March 25 to 31, resulted in the arrest of eight people, including two Myanmar nationals, four from Manipur and one from Assam, Inspector General of Police (Headquarters) H Ramthilingliana said.

The most significant operation took place on the morning of March 25, when the CID Operations Team (Special Branch) intercepted a truck at Toriyal Bridge near Aizawl.

Police also found an American-made pistol, two magazines and 40 live rounds.

He added that the 23-year-old driver, a resident of Champhai district in eastern Mizoram on the Indo-Myanmar border, has been detained.

In three operations near Kivang in Saitwal district from March 27 to 29, police teams intercepted three vehicles, resulting in the recovery of 4.46 kg of heroin with a total value, Ramthilingliana said. $8.93 Crores.

Four residents of Manipur and one from Assam were arrested in Kivang.

In another operation on March 31, two Myanmar nationals were arrested in Aizawl’s Zimbawk area for possession of 104 grams of heroin with an estimated street value of 104 grams. $20.4 lakh.

The IGP said multiple cases have been registered against the eight accused under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, Arms Act, and the Immigration and Foreigners Act.
