Twisha Sharma, former Miss Pune titleholder based in Noida, She was allegedly found hanged at her matrimonial home in Bhopal on May 12. While her in-laws and the autopsy report claimed that she died by suicide, her family claims foul play.

According to police sources in Parliament quoted by news agency ANI, the SIT conducted a re-enactment of the crime scene, which lasted for more than two hours, before which the SIT interrogated Twisha’s husband, Samarth Singh, for about three hours.

The quoted sources added that Samarth told the special investigation team that Twisha felt distressed after her miscarriage. Earlier, he claimed during previous rounds of interrogation that their relationship soured after Twisha learned about her pregnancy, news agency PTI reported, citing sources.

The Central Bank of Iraq takes over responsibility

The CBI on Monday registered an FIR in the case He formally took over the investigation after the Supreme Court bench led by Chief Justice of India Surya Kant handed over the investigation to the central agency.

The CBI has booked Twisha Sharma’s husband and mother-in-law, former district magistrate Giribala Singh, citing Sections 80 (2), 85 and 3 (5) of the Bharatiya Nyai Sanhita along with sections of the Dowry Prohibition Act, which the state police have also filed.

Earlier in the day, the agency sent the Special Crime Unit to Bhopal to take charge of the investigation and collect necessary documents and evidence.

After the meeting, the CBI re-registered the state police’s FIR, naming Samarth Singh and Giripala Singh as accused in its own case, as per procedures.

Bhopal Police registered an FIR two days after Twisha’s death.

What the state police FIR alleged

The FIR alleged that Twisha’s husband, Samarth, brought her to AIIMS, Bhopal, after she, her husband claimed, hanged herself at home at 10.20 pm on May 12.

Doctors at AIIMS informed the police on May 13 at 12.05 am that she was brought dead to the hospital, and a PMLC was registered, the FIR said.

The autopsy report stated that death was due to “ante-mortem suspension with a ligature” and that her body bore “multiple ante-mortem injuries (injuries noted that were minor in nature, and could have been done with blunt force on other parts of the body).”

After receiving the post-mortem report and recording the statement of Toish’s family members, the police registered an FIR on May 15.

A specialized team from AIIMS Delhi conducted a second autopsy and the report is still awaited.

Dowry suit

In their statements, Twisha Sharma’s family members alleged that she was tortured by her in-laws, who were not satisfied with the dowry paid at the time of marriage on December 9, 2025.

They accused her in-laws of psychological torture and domestic violence, pushing the 33-year-old to take this extreme step.

Twisha’s mother-in-law, Gribala Singh, has also questioned her alleged medical treatment, alleged drug use, and mental state in numerous media interviews.

In the statement given to the police at the time of filing the FIR, Twisha’s family said that she spoke to her mother at 9.41 pm.

During the call, her husband was heard screaming, and the call was suddenly cut off, the FIR alleged, quoting the statement.

After repeated calls, Giribala Singh picked up the phone and told Twisha’s sister-in-law that she was “no longer there” and hung up, it is alleged.

The Central Investigation Agency initiates an investigation, referred by the State Police, by re-registering a police FIR, which serves as the starting point for the investigation.

The result of the investigation shall be announced in a final report submitted before the competent court.

What did the Supreme Court say?

A Supreme Court bench, headed by Chief Justice of India Surya Kant and Justice Joymalia Bagchi, will hear the case on Monday. She said she would ensure that the investigation was fair, independent and impartial.

“We would like to assure the family members of the victim as well as the accused that instead of making statements in public or before a media platform, they should record their version before the investigating agency so that there is no bias or adverse impact on the ongoing investigation,” the bench said.
