The Maharashtra Municipal Corporation Election Results 2026 came into focus on Friday as early counting trends placed the BJP-led Mahayuti alliance in the lead across several major urban centres, including Mumbai, Pune and Thane, according to officials tracking the vote count.
Polling for 29 civic bodies across Maharashtra was held on Thursday, covering 2,869 seats across 893 wards. Vote counting is currently underway, with results expected to firm up through the day as additional rounds are completed.
The elections included high-profile municipal corporations such as the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), Pune Municipal Corporation, Pimpri-Chinchwad, Thane, Kalyan-Dombivli, Mira-Bhayandar and Navi Mumbai. The contests followed intense campaigning by the BJP, Shiv Sena factions, Congress, NCP and the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena.
In Mumbai’s BMC, early ward-level results indicated a fragmented mandate, with seats split among the BJP, Shiv Sena (Shinde), Shiv Sena (UBT) and Congress. Winners reported from initial wards included Asha Deepak Kale (Congress) from Ward 183 and Rekha Ram Yadav (Shiv Sena–Shinde) from Ward 1.
The Pune Municipal Corporation also saw early declarations, with Congress candidate Prashant Jagtap securing a win from Ward 18, according to preliminary data released during counting.
These civic elections were held after a gap of nearly nine years. The previous municipal polls took place in February 2017, when the undivided Shiv Sena emerged as the single largest party in the BMC, while the BJP recorded a significant rise in seat share. No party secured an outright majority at the time.
Market and political observers are closely tracking the results as they unfold across Maharashtra’s urban centres, given the economic and administrative influence of municipal corporations such as the BMC, India’s richest civic body.
Counting was continuing at the time of publishing, with further ward-wise results expected through the evening as election officials release updated tallies from across the state.
