After being removed from Jantar Mantar by Delhi Police on Saturday, activist Sonam Wangchuk is receiving “required medical intervention” at Vardhman Mahavir Medical College (VMMC) and Safdarjung Hospital. However, his wife, Gitanjali G Angmu, expressed that she has “lost confidence” and asked the Supreme Court to seek an urgent hearing.

“I have lost confidence in Safdarjung Government Hospital,” Gitanjali said in a post on X.
“The hospital told us that Sonam’s potassium level had dropped to 2.9, describing it as alarming and life-threatening,” she said. However, in the public health bulletin, it omitted the actual number, citing only “low potassium levels.” An independent laboratory test reported 3.5, which is within the normal range.”

She added: “Despite repeated requests, the hospital refused to discharge him or allow us to transfer him to a private hospital of our choice. With about 30 police personnel stationed on our floor and more than 100 throughout the hospital, our movement is severely restricted. It is not medical care. It is illegal detention.”
“If anything happens to Sonam, the hospital authorities and the government must take full responsibility,” she warned.
“I have therefore moved the Supreme Court and requested an urgent hearing today, praying for permission to transfer Sonam before his health deteriorates further. No family should have to fight the system just to choose where their loved ones receive medical care,” she noted, seeking the court’s intervention.
