On Saturday, Abhijit Deepki, founder of the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP), shared a screen recording, claiming that more than 94% of the satirical group’s Instagram audience was from India before its account was “hacked”. His post came in contrast to Union Minister Kiren Rijiju’s post in which he showed “compassion” for those seeking followers from Pakistan. While the minister did not directly mention anyone in his post, many took it as a comment on the controversy surrounding the alleged ban of CJP accounts across platforms.

The ‘Cockroach Janata Party’, which has been in focus for several days now, has been brought up as a satirical topic online after Indian Supreme Court Chief Justice Surya Kant’s remarks calling some of the country’s youth as ‘cockroaches’ sparked a controversy.

Started as a joke, the party quickly gained massive support online with people proudly associating themselves with the term “cockroaches.” In the days that followed, the CJP took social media by storm, with its number of Instagram followers surpassing those of the BJP by a wide margin.

However, its founder Abhijit Debaki recently claimed that the party’s X account was blocked in India, and made similar claims on his Instagram account and website.

What Debke told the CJP audience

Moving on to X, Abhijit Dipki shared some stats of the party’s Instagram account in a screen recording. The data he shared showed that the account received 1.6 billion views and 12 million new followers from April 22 to May 21.

It also showed the demographics of the party’s audience on the platform, with 94.1 per cent of followers from India, 1 per cent from the US, 0.7 per cent from the UK, and 06 per cent each from Canada and the UAE.

“More than 94% of the audience is from India. Why is Union Minister Kiren Rijiju describing Indian youth as Pakistanis?” Debki wrote. He said the data in the screen recording was from before the Instagram account was “hacked.”

Kirin Rijiju digs “Pak and George Soros.”

Abhijit Deepki shared the statistics soon after Union Minister Kiren Rijiju, without naming the CJP or any other party, expressed “pity” for those seeking social media followers from Pakistan and the “George Soros gang”. In another post, Rijiju said: “India has a sufficient population and very active youth who can be true and valuable followers! No need to seek verification from the anti-India cabal.”

Earlier, Union Minister Sukanta Majumdar also hit back at the CJP, saying that half of the satirical party’s followers are from Pakistan. “What is important is that 49% of Cockroach Janta Party followers on social media are from Pakistan, while only 9% are from India,” he said on Saturday, according to a report by PTI.

The CJP has been a huge success among the Indian opposition, with members like Mahua Moitra and Trinamool’s Kirti Azad rallying behind it, and former Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan condemning the blocking of the party’s X account in India.

However, several BJP leaders accused the group of creating chaos and trying to destabilize the country through a cross-border “influence operation”.
