The seat first went to the polls on 29 April in the second phase of elections in Bengal, but two days before the results, the Independent Electoral Commission ordered a re-poll for the seat, which happened on 21 May.
A re-poll was held in all the 285 booths in the constituency on May 21 after voting in the South 24 Parganas seat was canceled during the second phase of the assembly elections on April 29 due to allegations of EVM tampering and other irregularities.
An official at the polling committee said, “The counting process is progressing peacefully. Adequate security arrangements have been made at the counting center.”
Voter turnout
More than 87 percent of the district’s 2.36 thousand voters participated in the re-poll. To ensure that voting goes smoothly, the Election Commission has significantly enhanced security measures and deployed about 35 companies of central forces across the electoral district, PTI reported.
