The above development came as CJP founder Abhijit Debaki was traveling to India from the US to lead the proposed protest on Saturday, for which the party had not sought permission.

The petition filed by a Save India organization was filed before a leave bench of Justices Saurabh Banerjee and Amit Sharma. The NGO’s lawyer urged the court to hear the petition today, but the court refused to hear it.

Cockroach Janta Party protests on Saturday Key points

– Boston University graduate Abhijit Deepki created the website and social media accounts for the “Cockroach Janta Party” a day after the CJI’s remarks, referring to some youths as cockroaches, on May 15. Within days, the CJP’s Instagram page had amassed more than millions of followers, far outpacing the 8.8 million followers of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ruling Bharatiya Janata Party on the platform.

– The CJP created an overnight sensation following remarks attributed to Chief Justice of India Surya Kant who compared some unemployed youth and social media activists to “cockroaches” and “parasites” during a court hearing. Although the CJI later clarified that his remarks were aimed at people entering professions with fake degrees, and said his comments had been “misquoted,” the damage — or, depending on who you ask, the magic of the meme — had already been done.

– The party, which began as a satirical movement in response to the Chief Justice of India’s remarks, held its first press conference on Wednesday in Delhi, a day after appointing three spokespersons – investigative journalist Sourav Das, political researcher and film director Vijita Dahiya, and former management consultant Ashutosh Ranka.

– Its founder left for India on Friday and is likely to arrive in Delhi around 8 am on Saturday. Amid expectations of a huge turnout given the outfit’s massive youth support, Debaki took to the X on Thursday and appealed to his supporters not to come to the Delhi airport. “Instead, I will go to the Parliament Street police station to seek direct permission for our peaceful protest at Jantar Mantar,” he said. “We are law-abiding citizens and we must act responsibly,” he said, asking people to keep in mind that no one should cause any kind of disturbance.

Since its introduction, the CJP’s support base has grown and also includes prominent figures such as activist Sonam Wangchuk and actor Prakash Raj. Sonam Wangchuk, who fought for Ladakh statehood, is also expected to join the RJD’s protest on Saturday.

Cockroach Janta Party protest live: CJP faces questions over all-male team of spokespersons

Cockroach Janta Party protest live: The Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) announced three spokespersons for the movement on Wednesday, ahead of the planned protest at Jantar Mantar in Delhi. The names include journalist Sourav Das, director Vijita Dahiya and former management consultant Ashutosh Ranka.

However, social media users were quick to point out that no women had been named in the roles, with one saying: “Include some female spokesperson names before others call it an all-male party.” Another user questioned the “non-inclusivity” of members of the Dalit and Adivasi communities. They also highlighted the lack of representation among women, Muslims or the LGBTQ community.

CJP founder Abhijit Debaki later addressed the allegations, answering why the movement has not announced any women spokesperson yet.
