A 60-year-old security guard was killed after an SUV ran over him twice near a rig in west Delhi’s Biragarhi area in the early hours of Saturday, a police officer said on Sunday.

The incident was recorded on surveillance cameras, and the police registered a case of murder.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (External) Vikram Singh said that the deceased was identified as Bijinder Singh, a resident of Biragarhi village, who was working as a watchman at Tempo stand near Shri Shed Baba Mandir, near the village entry gate.

According to the police, a PCR call was received regarding a fatal accident at Paschim Vihar West police station around 4.03 am on Saturday, and the police team found Singh dead near the percussion platform.
During the initial investigation, police suspected it was a traffic accident, as tire skid marks were found at the crime scene. However, when investigators examined CCTV footage from nearby cameras, they found that the victim had been run over by the four-wheeler twice, the officer said.
In the CCTV footage seen by HT, a man is seen carrying a stick, walking towards Singh, and then hitting him. He returns to the SUV and sits in the passenger seat. The car then heads towards Singh and runs over him twice.

After analyzing the footage, a case was registered under Sections 103 (1) (murder) and 3 (5) (common intention) of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and multiple teams were tasked to identify and trace the car and the accused, the officer said.
Police are examining CCTV footage from the surrounding areas to determine the sequence of events that led to the murder.
Speaking to HT, Singh’s nephew Deepak Bhardwaj, 34, said his uncle had been working as a beat rig for over a year and lived with his son and daughter-in-law in Biragarhi village.
“He never quarreled with anyone. He never had any enmity with anyone either. We cannot imagine who could have done this and why,” Bhardwaj said.
