Dipendra Nath Chaudhary, from the Communist Party (S), confirmed the arrest and said that no clear motive had emerged yet. He said, “We received a call on number 112 at approximately 4.30 am from the accused himself.”

The twin girls were fifth-grade students at Mother Teresa School, directly across from their building. Their six-year-old brother was with his mother at the time of the incident in another part of the apartment.

The accused was staying in his apartment with his wife, their twin daughters, and his son. However, according to investigators, his wife stayed in another part of the apartment with her son, while the girls largely stayed with him.

The accused may have strangled the children and then killed them with a knife: officials

Forensic officials who examined the scene said that while the twins’ bodies were found on the floor, their bed appeared unused. They said the accused may have strangled the children before using the knife.

When officers from the local police station arrived at Trimurti’s apartment, they found the bodies of the two girls on the bedroom floor, and a blood-stained knife nearby. The sisters’ bed seemed quiet. The accused was sitting next to the bodies, and he was immediately arrested.

The wife was not aware that her daughters had been killed until the police arrived

The defendant’s wife told police that everything seemed normal the night before the accident. The family had dinner together before the accused took the children to his room and spoke on the phone for a long time.

The wife was allegedly sleeping in another part of the apartment and only learned of the murders when officers knocked on her door. While watching the CCTV feed from outside during the night, she saw him take his daughter to the bathroom at around 2.30am, then come back and turn off the light. Reshma then went to sleep and was not aware of the killings until the morning.

She demanded that her husband be executed on the same day.

Investigators suspect depression or a psychiatric condition

DCP Chaudhary said that although no clear motive has been identified, the accused is financially stable. Police said there were no apparent disputes over the money involved.

After preliminary investigations, investigators linked the incident to depression or a psychological condition.

According to investigators, the 45-year-old became increasingly unstable after his mother died a few months ago. His wife told police that he repeatedly talked about wanting to die and take the twins with him. She also told officials that he asked her to leave with their son and let him raise their daughters alone.

He also installed surveillance cameras throughout the apartment, from the entry gate to the kitchen and bedrooms, and kept his wife under constant surveillance. She said she was effectively banned from entering his room.

A large quantity of medications was also found in the accused’s room. Police are also checking whether he drugged the twins beforehand, given his professional access to drugs. She confirmed that he takes sleeping pills regularly. Officials are investigating whether he is receiving any psychological treatment.
