Eight people were killed and several others injured after a traveler fell into a gorge in Valparai, Tamil Nadu.

The accident occurred when the traveler was returning from Valparai and met with an accident at a steep bend on the mountain road, according to ANI.

The car was carrying a group of 13 tourists from Perinthalmanna, Kerala, who were returning after sightseeing.

Valparai police said the car lost control at the 13th sharp turn and fell at the ninth turn.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his condolences over the incident and prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured.

“I am sorry to hear about the unfortunate incident that took place in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu. My heartfelt condolences to those who lost their loved ones in the unfortunate incident. Prayers for the speedy recovery of the injured,” PM Modi said in a post on X.

Among the dead were a man and seven women. The driver and four others were injured. The injured were rescued and taken to the government hospital in Pollachi for treatment.

Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan also expressed deep grief over the loss of lives and extended his condolences to the bereaved families.

In a statement issued by Chief Marketing Officer, CM Vijayan said he directed the authorities to ensure the best possible treatment of the injured. He also stressed that the government will provide the necessary assistance to the families of the deceased.
