‘The Devil Wears Prada 2’: Sidney Sweeney to Anna Wintour, stars cut from runway drama

“The Devil Wears Prada 2” brings back the four original actors Anne Hathaway, Meryl Streep, Emily Blunt and Stanley Tucci, along with a wave of exciting new faces, but not everyone who appeared on set made it into the final film. From creative decisions to scheduling conflicts to scenes that simply didn’t fit the story, here are four notable names that ended up on the cutting room floor.

Sidney Sweeney

Sidney Sweeney

According to Entertainment Weekly, one of Hollywood’s most in-demand actors following the success of The Housemaid, Sydney Sweeney was seen on set during production, and speculation about her involvement has been rife throughout 2025. She plays herself in a three-minute scene inside the Dior offices, where Emily Charlton is getting dressed when Andy, Miranda and Nigel arrive to ask for Emily’s help. The scene was ultimately cut for structural reasons, with the creative team calling it a difficult decision and expressing genuine gratitude for her time.

Conrad Ricamora

The report revealed that Conrad Ricamora, who is best known for playing hacker Oliver Hampton in How to Get Away With Murder, was chosen to be Andy’s roommate in the sequel, but his character did not survive the test screenings. Audiences questioned the character’s significance within the context of the larger story, and the role was ultimately cut. Ricamora took it kindly, admitting on Instagram that his character didn’t make sense in the grand scheme of the film while calling the experience one of the best of his career.

Anna Wintour

Anna Wintour

There would be no “Devil Wears Prada” without Anna Wintour, the former editor-in-chief of Vogue whose former assistant wrote the original book and whose character, Meryl Streep and Miranda Priestly, the magazine noted, visited the set and shot a shot on camera, but director David Frankel ultimately decided that her presence was merely a description of a film that exists in a parallel universe in which Runway and Miranda Priestly stand in for Vogue and Wintour herself.

Adrian Grenier

Adrian Grenier

Adrian Grenier, who played Andy’s friend Nate in the original film, wasn’t able to make it to the set at all, and the outlet added that his absence is noteworthy given how important the character was to the first film. There were plans for Nate to appear in a cameo role, but it proved impossible to arrange timing before the production schedule closed. Grenier addressed his absence with humor in a recent Starbucks ad, suggesting that perhaps it was time for Nate to leave firmly behind in 2006.
