Tamil Nadu government approves 5 screenings per day for new films; He explained the new theater rule in the state

On May 16, a meeting was held between representatives of the Tamil film industry and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay, on several demands, including allowing all films to be screened with five shows a day in theaters across the state.

The discussion covered theater reforms, subsidies for low-budget films, and entertainment taxes. After this discussion, the government has now taken a major decision that will benefit the film industry.

Explain the rules of the special offer

As per the current Tamil Nadu Theater Regulations, 1957, theaters currently present four shows daily under the terms of a Form C licence. An additional fifth show is permitted with prior permission of the district authorities on festivals and public holidays.

Now, after reviewing the industry’s demand, the state government has officially revised the rules. New Tamil films will be allowed five shows per day for the first seven days after release.

In addition, five showings per day will be allowed on weekends, public holidays and local festival days, making screening more flexible for exhibitors.

No separate approval is needed for special offers in the first week

The revised order simplifies the process for theater owners. The Tamil Nadu government has announced that during the first seven days of a new film’s release, during weekends or public holidays, no separate permission from licensing authorities will be required to conduct five shows. It is hoped this will reduce the paperwork required and help theater operators manage increased demand during busy days.
