‘Toxic’ star Huma Qureshi talks about her refusal to type, describing creative freedom as her biggest success in her 12-year acting journey: “I resent being put in a box. As an actress, there is only so much I can do.”
Having spent more than a decade in the film industry, Huma Qureshi believes she has finally reached a stage where she can shape her career on her own terms. The actress, who has completed 12 years in cinema, says she is now confident enough to add her creative touch to every project she takes on.
This month, Huma not only produced the thriller “Baby Do Die Do”, but also led it. She will next be seen in Geethu Mohandas’ action drama ‘Toxic’, starring Kannada superstar Yash. She described the film as a unique experience, and said: “It is a crazy and different world.”Looking back on her early years, Homa admits that her idea of success has evolved significantly. As an actor, there is a lot I can do, but I can’t force anyone to give me a chance, even if I think I would be good at it. The opportunities that come to me I will try to take advantage of. I can age and de-age myself, I can do anything because I am an actor. I want to feel free from the shackles of other people’s ideas and expectations.

Although Huma has gained a reputation for choosing unconventional and performance-driven roles, she reveals that there is one genre she still hopes to explore. The actress says she would love to headline romantic or mainstream commercial entertainers, though such offers have largely eluded her. “If I do a commercial or romantic film, I will do it my way.
“I’m not going to copy someone else’s idea of it.”
