“At the end of the season, as writers, we do this thing where we desperately want to get another season, where we have thousands of adventures so that Ted can… [Sarandos] And Bella [Bajaria] “Well, we have to know what happened, so let’s catch it,” Mindy Kaling, co-creator and executive producer of Running Point, explains in the show’s Season 2 premiere. “At first, it’s just like digging ourselves out of a hole we’ve created, which is really fun.”
Kaling, along with fellow creators Ike Barinholtz, who also joined the show as a guest star this season, and David Stassen, who served as showrunner, brought together the cast of Kate Hudson’s Netflix basketball comedy at the Egyptian Theater in Hollywood on Wednesday night.

“There is such growth with Ali this season. We’ll learn a little more about her personal life, [her] Marital issues. I also really liked that you could see Ali’s character interacting with the brothers [more]”, Song says of her character’s development in season two.
“It’s a lot of fun in seasons two and three — when you’re laying the groundwork and seeing these characters playing off each other — because they bring out different parts of each other,” she adds.
Guido notes that he feels almost protective of Jackie, the newest sibling in the Gordon family, as a character. “I love Jackie so much. I just wanted to make sure he didn’t completely change,” Guido says. “I want to continue to show Jackie the heart that Jackie has and his loyalty to be in the right place.”
MacArthur echoes Song’s thoughts about exploring more in this new season. “We’re really lucky that Netflix and Warner Bros. are behind the show because you really settle down [during a second season]”, says the actor.
“In the first season of any show, you really learn how to jam with each other, and the writers learn how to jam with the actors,” he continues. “[In] In Season 2, you can come in, you can relax a little bit more, you can trust the character, you can trust the writing, you can trust yourself.
Season 2 also brings some new additions – Ray Romano joins the group and Justin Theroux returns as a series regular after recurring in Season 1 – which means new dynamics for the team and front office for the Waves. Barinholtz and the latter traitor Lisa Rinna is among a slew of guest stars for season two, including Octavia Spencer, Nicole Richie and Scott Speedman.

I didn’t watch the first season, so before I agreed, I said I would watch two of them [episodes]. “Then I got so involved in it that I just watched them all,” Romano explains of how he was cast in the show.
“I decided this was going to be the year of yes, so I said yes to this. Sometimes that turns out to be a good thing, and it ends up being a good thing,” he continues. “I read the book too, Power noSo now I’m back where I started.”
Barinholtz teased his guest’s spot on Wednesday’s carpet. “He’s a very desperate loser, but he’s one of my favorite characters I’ve ever played,” he says.
When asked how his longtime friend and collaborator Kaling was cast, he joked, “It’s going to be Cousin Penny’s mistress. Oh, you think I’m the biggest loser? You’re sleeping with the biggest loser. What does that mean to you?”
Although nothing has been confirmed for a potential third season, Stassen teases what fans can expect if it happens. “More family fights, more feuds, more double-takes, more basketball,” he says. “And maybe Isla will walk through some glass doors again.”
