Disney has rolled out the red carpet for The devil wears prada 2 During a presentation in Las Vegas on Thursday, Anne Hathaway appeared virtually to promote the new project and reflect on its staying power over two decades.
She then introduced some new footage, which showed Meryl Streep’s Miranda Priestly leading an editorial meeting in Runway And return to its familiar place to criticize the presentations made by its employees. “I hope my suicide is short and painless,” she whines at one point, while new addition Simone Ashley sits next to her and tries to keep her on a more politically correct path.
This is followed by a montage of other clips showing major fashion moments and Hathaway and Emily Blunt’s characters on a boat, appearing to be sailing through Italy.
The original 2006 film has become a cultural classic over the past 20 years, and original stars Streep, Hathaway, Blunt, and Stanley Tucci are all back for the sequel when it hits theaters on May 1. Also joining the film are Kenneth Branagh, Justin Theroux, Lucy Liu, Patrick Bramall, Caleb Heron, Pauline Chalamet, PJ Novak and Conrad Ricamora.
The follow-up sees Miranda Priestly (Streep) in conflict against Emily (Blunt), her former assistant turned rival CEO, as they compete for advertising revenues amid the decline of print media, while Miranda also approaches retirement. Hathaway’s Andy Sachs also returns to work with Miranda, where he serves as editor at Runway.
The devil wears Prada Director David Frankel returns to direct the sequel, which is written by Allen Brosh McKenna, who wrote the screenplay for the first film, based on Loren Weisberger’s 2003 novel of the same name.
Along with a lot of online buzz, the filming of the sequel also attracted crowds of onlookers, as well as numerous photos and videos splashing around on social media, as the team filmed in New York last summer.
“All this attention and obsession with the rapid consumption of this movie before it comes out… is in many ways a symbol of how our industry and our lives are changing,” Blunt said. Vogue magazine. “We started out wearing our sweatpants, and only changed them at the last minute to try to keep the magic.”
“I was elated when I first walked out on Sixth Avenue — where we shot 20 years ago and no one cared,” Streep said. “I changed clothes, got out of the carriage, and I just heard this roar! When we shot the Met Ball, it was even crazier. People were dressing like Miranda! Honestly, it really shocked me.”
