Rob Schneider calls on the US to “restore military conscription to our nation’s youth” amid the country’s ongoing war with Iran.
The actor and comedian, who has never served in the military, recently took to X to share his thoughts, writing: “We must once again recommit ourselves to one nation under God, indivisible. Therefore, we must restore military conscription for our nation’s youth.”
“Every American, at the age of eighteen, must perform two years of military service. They may also choose to serve part of that period abroad or in the country in a volunteer capacity,” Adults The actor continued. “Being citizens of the United States gives us unparalleled freedoms and opportunities that are the envy of the world. However, these freedoms we cherish do not come without a cost. By protecting and preserving these freedoms, young people, regardless of race, creed or religion, will be united in service to their country and, just as importantly, to each other.”
Schneider went on to explain why he felt that reinstating the military draft “would serve many purposes in our society.”
“We will put all our young men and women through a rigorous course of physical training that they can use for the rest of their lives, and we will always have a standing army ready at all times, including domestic troubles such as natural disasters,” he wrote. “Unlike in today’s universities, our young people will learn how great their country truly is and how unique and wonderful are the freedoms this nation affords them. The service is a solemn reminder of the men and women who came before them who ‘paid the last full measure of devotion’ so that we could enjoy these freedoms.”
“It is also very important that we are of service to every segment of our society represented so that our elected officials will be more reluctant and not so cavalier about sending their sons and daughters off to a distant war unless it is truly in our nation’s best interest. This discussion and implementation must begin. To the youth of America, this is your country and your future. We will leave this great, free nation in your good hands for your children and for the sake of your children’s children. God bless America,” Schneider concluded. America!
The last US military call-up took place on December 7, 1972, amid the Vietnam War. Although there is currently no active draft, the Selective Service System still requires registration of most male citizens and immigrants between the ages of 18 and 25.
Since the US-Iran conflict began at the end of February – military strikes were coordinated by the Trump administration and Israel, targeting Iran’s military infrastructure, nuclear facilities and leadership – questions have been raised about another potential US project. But the White House stated that there are no immediate plans for the draft resolution.
