Olivia Rodrigo spoke more about the Daisy Chain Fields charity music festival she just announced, saying Good morning America on Tuesday that all businesses in the bill are to be operated free of charge.
Rodrigo first announced Daisy Chain Fields on Monday, revealing a stacked lineup of women that includes herself, Chapelle Rowan, Bikini Kill, Sarah McLachlan, Stevie Nicks and many others. 100% of net proceeds will go to charity.
Speaking with Diane Sawyer, Rodrigo described the women who lent themselves to the festival as “a true testament to their hearts as well as their talents.”
Charities listed include Daisy Chain Fields partnering with Baby2Baby, Black Mamas Matter Alliance, Center for Reproductive Rights, FreeFrom, Jhpiego, Johns Hopkins Center for Indigenous Health, National Domestic Workers Alliance, National Institute for Reproductive Health, National Women’s Law Center, and Planned Parenthood.
The festival quickly drew comparisons to the popular Lilith Fair festival that MacLachlan co-founded in the 1990s, and he told Rodrigo Sawyer that those shows were “a big inspiration for me to start this festival.”
“Actually, the first person I called when I decided I wanted to participate in this festival was Sarah McLachlan,” Rodrigo said. “She is an absolute trailblazer, an amazing artist and a friend.”
Rodrigo said she hopes Daisy Chain Fields can challenge the societal idea that women should act against each other to get ahead.
“I think there’s a narrative that girls are supposed to compete against each other to get first place, or that there are only this amount of resources available to everyone,” Rodrigo said. “I think it’s an experience like Lilith Fair and Daisy Chain that hopefully shows us that we’re all stronger when we come together and support each other.”
