“Iconic By Mistake,” a catchy collaboration between girl groups Katseye, Le Sserafim and Illit, debuted at number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
The association, which includes girl groups from various Hybe sub-labels, reached number 38, a higher peak than most K-pop entries, which, with the exception of a few groups, have historically had difficulty reaching the chart, likely due to a lack of radio play in the United States. The song also charted on several other Billboard charts including the Global 200 (No. 25) and the World Chart excluding US (No. 22). In the United Kingdom, it debuted at number 22 on the UK Singles Chart.
While “Iconic By Mistake” marks the groups’ first time together, each girl group has reached the Billboard Hot 100 individually. This marks Katseye’s fifth entry, Le Sserafim’s fourth, and Illit’s second on the Hot 100.
Katseye, a US-based six-member international girl group, hails from the partnership between Hybe and Geffen Records. “Iconic By Mistake” featured five members of the group – Sofia, Daniela, Lara, Megan and Yunchai – as member Manon has been on hiatus since earlier this year.
The girl group’s 2025 hit “Gnarly” launched a string of hits for the group over the past year and a half. Katseye was nominated for two Grammy Awards earlier this year, including the Best New Artist category. They also made their debut at Coachella in April and recently played to a capacity crowd at Governors Ball in New York.
Le Sserafim, a five-member K-pop girl group, falls under Hybe’s sub-label Source Music. The five-member girl group, which includes members Chaewon, Sakura, Yeonjin, Kazuo, and Inchae, recently released their latest studio album, Pureflow pt. 1. The album debuted at No. 10 on the Billboard 200 earlier this month. “Iconic By Mistake” became the group’s highest-charting song on the Hot 100.
Illit, a five-member K-pop girl group, is signed to Hybe’s sub-label Belift, which is also home to the popular boy group Enhypen. The group, which includes members Yunah, Minju, Moka, Wonhee, and Iroha, recently released their fourth EP, Mamihlapinatapay. Illit’s first single of 2024, “Magnetic”, became an instant hit for the group, launching their career by entering the Hot 100 at No. 91. “Iconic By Mistake” became their highest-charting song on the chart.
“Iconic By Mistake” was released on June 12 and included a music video with members of various girl groups. A full group collaboration like this song is a rarity in the world of K-Pop, especially when all the groups, despite being from the same parent company, are under different labels under Hybe. The supergroup also performed the song on Korean music shows as one big unit.
