She deserves Miranda Priestly.
Meryl Streep says the popularity of the superhero genre has led to films with duller characters — with more obvious heroes and villains instead of real characters with shades of gray (like the character she plays in). The devil wears prada 2which opens this weekend).
The Oscar winner was interviewed by her Prada Stars Anne Hathaway and Emily Blunt took part on the Hits Radio Breakfast Show when interviewer Fleur East asked about seeing a softer side of Priestley in the new film.
“I feel like you got a realistic view,” Streep responded. “I think we tend now to make Marvel movies. We have the bad guys and we have the good guys, and that is it Very boring“.
“What’s really interesting in life is that some heroes are flawed and some villains are human and interesting and have their own strengths. That’s what I like about it,” Streep continued. [movie]. It’s more chaotic.
Later, the topic of artificial intelligence and whether Priestley would use it came up. Streep said her character wouldn’t do that, as she has assistants to do the work for her. This led Hathaway to reveal that she was recently hiring someone for an unspecified position when each candidate sent an identical thank you note — apparently all written by ChatGPT.
“The first one arrived and I was like, ‘That’s so nice and so professional,’” Hathaway recalls. “Then the second one arrived and I was like, ‘Oh no. So I just want to warn you: If you think you’re getting away with something, you might be revealing yourself. “It was funny.”
Streep looked somewhat terrified. “There’s a lot of Anne Hathaway to come forward that you can’t write yourself?” She said. “That would be an absolute killer – no one on that list gets that job. That’s just tragic, in my opinion. Don’t let the human get away with the girls. The future is female, so you better hold on to it.”
Streep recently revealed that she doubled her salary on the Disney sequel by turning down an offer to return to her iconic role.
“They called me and made me an offer, and I said, ‘No, I’m not going to do it,'” Streep said during an interview with PBS. today. “I knew it was going to be a hit, and I wanted to see if I could double my order…and they immediately went over and said, ‘Sure.’ I thought, ‘I’m 50-60. [years old] – It took me a long time to understand that I could do it! I felt like they needed me. I was ready to retire. “That was a lesson.”
