Lalit Barimu blames Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor for 'interfering' in Agent Vinod's failure: 'Sriram Raghavan could not make the film'

More than a decade after the release of Agent Vinod, actor Lalit Parimu has spoken candidly about why he thought the ambitious spy thriller failed to connect with audiences. The film is directed by Sriram Raghavan and stars Saif Ali Khan and…

generated much buzz before its release in 2012 but ultimately performed poorly at the box office. In a recent interview with Siddharth Kannan, Lalit claimed that excessive interference from the film’s lead stars affected the director’s vision and affected the final outcome of the project.

“Sriram Raghavan couldn’t make the film the way he wanted to.”

Sharing his thoughts on the film’s disappointing performance, Lalit said, “I think the main reason why the film didn’t work was because of the heavy interference from stars Saif and Kareena. Sriram Raghavan couldn’t make the film the way he wanted to.”

At every step, he was told to change this or that. I turned into a hotchpotch. The movie’s runtime was also too long. The writing and directing team were unable to deliver what they dreamed of.

That was the drawback.”The actor noted that the director was unable to fully implement his original creative vision, resulting in a film that lacked cohesion.

“If they suggest based on their stardom, it spoils the movie.”

Lalit also spoke about the importance of letting directors guide the project according to their vision, acknowledging that constructive input from actors can be valuable.

“I feel a film is a director’s child. So, if a director has a vision, one has to go with it. A director should also keep actors who suggest the right things. It makes no sense if they are suggesting based on their stardom. If they add value to the character, then they should be included. It’s not because they think their shots are reduced or some other actors are getting more. It ruins the film,” he said.

Lalit claims that the interference affected the film

When asked if Sriram Raghavan had personally discussed these concerns with him while shooting the film, Lalit said the director did not talk much about it at that time.

However, he maintained that there was interference in the creative process.Agent Vinod featured Saif Ali Khan in the titular role of a RAW agent, while

Khan played ISI agent Iram Parveen Bilal, also known as Dr. Robbie Mendes. Despite the high expectations surrounding the project, the film failed to be the success many expected and remains one of the most controversial films of Sriram Raghavan’s career.
