Janhvi Kapoor shares a statement criticizing the misinterpretation of her comments on alcoholism awareness: 'She is a caregiver, not someone with personal experience'

Janhvi Kapoor is in the news for her latest initiative focusing on alcohol addiction awareness. The ‘Dhadak’ actress recently appeared on an audio show and spoke about the issue. However, the actress has now shared a clarification, saying that some of her recent statements have been misinterpreted.

The clarification referred to statements she made during a conversation on the Raj Shamani podcast, where she spoke about a phase in her life when she was drinking alcohol repeatedly after a very traumatic experience. The official statement, which Janhvi later shared on her Instagram Story, emphasized the context behind her words. It said: “We at Off The Rocks & Amaha have noticed some media pages misrepresenting content related to this initiative and Janhvi Kapoor.

“This is very worrying.”The memo also clarified her role, saying: “We want to be clear, Janhvi Kapoor is part of this conversation as a caregiver and ally, not as someone with any personal experience with addiction or alcohol dependence. Such a misrepresentation not only diminishes her role, but also undermines and disrespects the real, lived experiences of those who battle addiction and those who support them.”

Let’s not underestimate the importance of efforts to provide remedial help to a critical problem by misinformation in order to bait clicks.

The statement also urged media platforms and individuals to deal with the issue responsibly, focusing on the need to be sensitive when discussing addiction. She added that spreading misinformation in this space is harmful and disrespectful to those directly affected, and also thanked the supporters for standing by the initiative.During her appearance on the podcast, Janhvi said: “I wouldn’t say I was addicted or abusing alcohol, but I was drinking frequently. This was after a very traumatic experience in my life. I felt the need to say, ‘I need to drink.'” She also reflected on how her perspective had changed over time, explaining that she had become more aware of the effects it had on her body and how she felt afterwards. She also shared that a hangover made her uncomfortable and that noticing a certain smell on herself reminded her of someone close who was struggling with addiction — an experience that made her realize it wasn’t a path she wanted to continue on.On the professional front, Jhanvi will next be seen in the film Peddi alongside Ram Charan. The film is slated to release on June 6, 2026. She was last seen in Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari, co-starring Varun Dhawan, which hit theaters in October last year.
