Jake Johnson and Ben Stiller rock a pickleball embrace in the trailer for the upcoming sports comedy on Apple TV Dink.

Director Josh Greenbaum’s film is scheduled to begin streaming from Apple Original Films on July 24. The cast includes Mary Steenburgen, Ed Harris, Patton Oswalt, Chloe Fineman, Chris Parnell, Aaron Chen, and tennis star Andy Roddick.

Dink Johnson plays Dusty Boyd, a former tennis player who aggravates an old injury. Although his father (Harris) is not a fan of the growing popularity of pickleball, Dusty reluctantly agrees to try his luck at the sport alongside his new partner Candace (Steenburgen).

“I know pickleball is kind of a dumb game, but it’s the quickest path back to tennis for you,” Steeler advises Johnson in the trailer.

Greenbaum (ElectrolytesThe film was directed from a screenplay by Sean Clements. Stiller, who produced and starred in the 2004 sports comedy Dodgeballacts as a producer for Dink Along with Johnson, John Lesher, Rob Paris and Mike Weatherill.

During an interview with Pickleball.comJohnson noted that his impression of pickleball developed while working on the film.

“I read the script, and I’d never played pickleball,” said Johnson, who admitted to gaining an appreciation for the sport while training for the role. “I didn’t think about it much. I thought of it as, ‘I’ll just pick it up.'” Our director, Josh Greenbaum, wanted to make it an actual sports movie, so pickleball was cast. We shot pickleball material, and it looks good.”
