While the original stars of The devil wears PradaAnne Hathaway, Meryl Streep, Stanley Tucci, and Emily Blunt are all back for the upcoming sequel, and the sequel’s director, David Frankel (who also directed the 2006 original), explains why Adrian Grenier, who played Andy Hathaway’s boyfriend, Nate, won’t appear in the film.
In a recent interview with entertainment Weekly, Frankel revealed that he initially thought about getting… footnote The star reprises his role.
“There was no time,” Frankel told the publication, before also noting that filming was completed less than a month before it was scheduled to be released, so “there was no time.”
Hollywood Reporter It was confirmed in July that Grenier would not be returning for the sequel. Months later, the actor eventually spoke out about not returning for the second film, calling it a “disappointment” and claiming that negative public perception of Nate was the reason his character would not return.
“We’re all fans of the movie, whether we were in it or not,” Grenier said. Page six at that time. “Obviously it was disappointing not to get the call to be in the sequel. But I also understand that there was some backlash with Nate’s character, so that may have had something to do with it.”
Earlier this month, Grenier joked about not being asked to return in a Starbucks commercial. “You may have seen the headlines – I haven’t been asked to be part of a particular sequel. But I’m good. Really. It’s good energy,” he said. “So a toast to Nate. He made a bad sandwich. He kind of liked his girlfriend. He wasn’t perfect. So let’s leave Nate in 2006 and keep that good energy going.”
