Ranveer Singh may be basking in the success of his latest film ‘Dhurandhar: The Revenge’, but the controversy surrounding his imitation of Rishabh Shetty has taken a new legal turn. When a case was registered against him, the actor informed the Karnataka High Court that he was ready to submit an apology affidavit for the incident involving Chamundi Devi’s portrayal.
After filing the affidavit, the complainant, Prashanth Mithal, said the apology lacked sincerity and pointed out that Rishabh had already signaled to Ranveer to stop during the event. According to Bar and Bench, senior advocate Sajan Povaiya representing Ranveer told Justice M Nagaprasanna that a fresh affidavit will be filed. Povaya agreed to consult with Mithal to improve the wording of the affidavit and submit a revised version before the court.
The actor expressed his regret for what he did, noting that he did not realize at the time that his statements could hurt religious feelings.

Reading from the existing affidavit, Povaiya said: “I have submitted an affidavit of apology. In that affidavit I have pledged that I will also visit the temple. (The affidavit states) On the date of the incident, even for a single moment, I did not realize that I had offended the deva worshippers.”
I also want to clarify, I grew up in a Sindhi family in Mumbai and was not aware of the sensitivities. Through this statement, I once again express my deep regret and unconditional apology.
I will visit the deity’s temple in due time to offer my prayers and express my devotion.Justice Nagaprasanna admitted the applications and adjourned the matter to April 23. The controversy dates back to November 28 last year during the International Film Festival in India, where Ranveer imitated him on stage while praising Rishabh’s performance in ‘Kantara: Chapter 1’.
Despite Rishabh’s request to stop, Ranveer repeated the act, including while greeting and hugging him.Ranveer had earlier issued a public apology, saying, “My intention was to highlight Rishabh’s amazing performance in the film. From actor to actor, I know how much it took to perform that particular scene the way he did, which is something I admire greatly. I have always deeply respected every culture, tradition and belief of our country. If I have hurt anyone’s sentiments, I sincerely apologise.”
