Former actress Sameera Reddy may have kept a low profile, but her memories of navigating Bollywood in the early 2000s are still fresh. In a recent interview, she opened up about the pressure to fit in, admitting that it once pushed her to overspend on luxury brands.Speaking to Hautterfly, Samira spoke about how her fashion choices have evolved over the years. “I have now settled on organic clothes and have not touched my luxury clothes much,” she said, as she reviewed pieces from her old wardrobe, including a Chanel jacket worth around Rs 2.5 lakh. “This was me before kids,” she added.Speaking about the mindset she had in her early twenties, Samira admitted: “At that time I was addicted to shopping.”

She spoke further while picking up a bag from her early days in cinema, saying: “This is a Dior Gaucho bag. This is from 2005. When I was just starting to shoot films, I felt like I needed the latest bags.”She was not ashamed to admit the underlying pressure. “I bought these bags because I felt pressure to fit in. Usually people say they like bags, but I actually bought these things so people would think I arrived.

“Now when I look back, I think I wish I had bought a block of gold, I would have done so much better,” she said, estimating the price of the Dior Gaucho bag she pointed out at between 3,000 and 4,000 rupees.

“I don’t want to scream ‘look at me’ anymore.”

Samira also recalled that she bought a Louis Vuitton bag because it was popular in the industry. “If you look at this big bag, everyone in my industry was carrying these big LV bags (for their airport looks), and I was so stressed out that I remember going and buying it, thinking I had to take one look at the airport.

“I have to take this look,” she shared. The price of the Louis Vuitton bag is around Rs 1.7 lakh. She added that the stage was driven by the need to display wealth and status. “I went through that phase when it was all like, ‘Let’s show what we’ve got.’ And then about thirteen years ago, I realized I didn’t want to scream ‘look at me’ and be beautiful in quiet luxury.”

“I have become a very comfortable girl in Goa.”

Today, Samira embraces a simpler, more conscious lifestyle. “Since I moved to Goa, I have become this very relaxed girl. I love organic cotton. I have become less fashion forward and have also stayed away from big brands. Now I enjoy being very simple and mixing and matching what I have,” she said.Sameera Reddy, who worked in Hindi, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam films between 2002 and 2013, moved away from the entertainment industry after marrying Akshay Varde in 2014.
