While speaking with The New York Times, the actor was completely open and honest, and talked about everything that has happened over the past two years. In a rare and candid article, while talking about her upbringing, she spoke candidly about how her mother shot her father in 1992 in order to save her life.Giving a detailed description of what happened, the actress shared, “I think these things should be talked about because they make others not feel alone,” and she also added, “I never knew about a story like this.”
When this happened to us, I thought we were the only people. “These things don’t haunt me anymore.”Theron then elaborated on the matter, noting that she and her mother, Gerda Jacoba, and Aletta Martez, had gone out to spend some time together at the movies. Next, they visited an uncle’s house, and she revealed that when she ran to the bathroom without announcing herself, Charles Theron was furious. The 50-year-old added: “He thought I was rude because I didn’t stop and say hello to everyone.”
She was only 15 years old at the time, and she knew that her father was very angry with her. When they got home, she went straight to her room and asked her mother to tell him that she was already asleep. She added: “I went to my room, turned off the lights, and I was scared. My window faces the driveway, and I could tell the level of anger or frustration or unhappiness from the way he drove his car.”The actress shared that her father broke into the house and just started shooting.
Her mother got her gun, and the two hid in Charlize’s room, though he began shooting at them through the same door. Her mother then used her gun to defend herself, and ended up shooting her father, killing him before he could get more weapons.
How Charlize Theron and her mother handled the whole thing
The “Atomic Bomb” actress revealed that her mother had either gotten over the incident at the time, or was just pretending, until later, according to the actress, therapy was not a thing of their time.
