While many in the Hollywood studio world are understandably focused on the next wave of young horror talent, some are keeping an eye on the next generation of comedic talent on the rise.
Phil Lord and Chris Miller have come on board to produce I promise we’re awesomea high-concept comedy film just set for Universal Pictures.
Charlie Hall, who is best known for his acting work in shows such as Sexual life of college girls and monster: The Ed Gein Story, The screenplay is set to be written by Max Tzannis, part of the Dirty Shot Clean filmmaking collective.
Plot details are being kept under wraps, but the project is described as a high-concept high school comedy with a sci-fi twist. Sources also indicate that elements of the project’s story align perfectly with that of Lord and Miller, who wrote and directed 21 Jump Street, Which featured undercover adult high school cops, brought out the feel of a spacefaring adventure this year Hail Mary project.
Lord and Miller will produce through their company Lord Miller’s first look deal with Universal Pictures. Aditya Sood and Lucy Kitada will also produce the film. Ahkia Andrada, Lord Miller’s director of development, brought the project forward.
Tzannis, Jacob Souza and David San Miguel, who make up Dirty Shot Clean, will executive produce. Senior Executive Vice President of Production Development Eric Byers will oversee the studio project.
Hall, the son of comedians Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Brad Hall, has amassed a large number of acting credits, including the film Peacock. Bel Air And free form Single drunk femalein recent years. He can currently be seen in the Apple+ black comedy series Maximum enjoyment guaranteed Opposite Tatiana Maslany. Hall has also been slowly building his resume, developing a scripted comedy series titled Chinese League For Hulu.
Tzannes has made several award-winning short films with his Dirty Shot Clean groups, their debut being Et tuShakespearean comedy-thriller starring Lou Diamond Phillips and Malcolm McDowell. Tzannes’ follow-up feature was: Found Footage: The Making of the Patterson Project, Produced in association with Radio Silence. The film caught Hollywood’s attention for its innovative meta-style of depicting an independent filmmaker making a found-footage film centered around Bigfoot (think Christopher Guest’s mockumentary meets The Blair Witch Project).
Hall is repped by CAA and Untitled Entertainment. Tzannes is repped by UTA, Anonymous Content and Ziffren Brittenham.
